Should you worry if you're jobless for more than 6 months?

Especially if your gender is=MALE and you're in your early twenties?

No way! You are young and just starting out! The only thing employers will wonder is what you have been doing over those 6 months.

Possible scenarios:
-------------------------
If you recently completed university/college/etc., then don't worry about it too much, I'd get a part time job in the mean time, cause sometimes it takes a while to get a degree related job right after graduating.

If you don't have any post-secondary education, I would worry less. I have a friend that's 22 who spent a few months in between jobs; although, I would still recommend finding a fulltime job of some sort (anything is good) to ease the transition.

As for if you have already worked a while (longer than 6 months) in a post secondary education related job..... then you probably wouldn't be in your mid twenties, but for completeness..... you probably should find a job more so than the others; however, as always, there is no reason to worry too hard. Just find a reason for why you have been out of work for those 6 months in case anyone asks (they probably won't if your resume looks normal)

Future tips to ease job transitions:
--------------
1. When you are leaving a job, it is best to search for a job at least 2 months before your official leave day. As long as you are not on contract you can always quit earlier by giving two or more weeks notice (whatever the minimum is where you live) , and if you are on contract, you can always tell your interviewer (when you get job interviews) that you will be finishing your contract on ....

2. If you cannot find anything and are on E.I., pick up a job at a restaurant, supermarket, etc. you don't have to put it on your resume if it is irrelevant to your job, but it gives you something to do, and an answer in an interview if they ask what you have been doing since your last related job (assuming that working at a supermarket is unrelated with your field of work).

3. Work on your resume. Remember, the resume is an invitation to an interview. If they like your resume, you will probably get an interview. Remember that a resume is not a life story and should always be between 1-4 pages. Less is more, remember, you can say anything extra in an interview.

4. Send a personalized and signed cover letter to any job. It shows interest in the job, and will impress many employers (especially when others don't have a cover letter); however, don't overdo it. A cover letter should be less than a page (a few short paragraphs at most) that explains why you are suited for the job.

5. Work on your interview skills. The best suggestion is be yourself, be calm, and be professional. You won't be prepared for every question, and they know that, but just do your best, and don't worry if you fumble (I've gotten jobs with a few fumbles in interviews, and who hasn't); they want a person afterall, not a robot.

Conclusion
---------------
I hope that this has been helpful, and if not, then please send me an email telling me what more I can say or how to improve my answer.

Thanks,

Graham

It depends on the person's financial status. It may be necessary to go back to school or get in a job training program.

Gender is never an issue ! 'Maruah' n 'air muka', its our self respect that matter ! 6 months? One month is already too much unless you are a rich man son or your father a Datuk or something !

A chinese saying - ride cow to look for horse ! meaning just grab any jod available [ there are plenty unless you are damn choosy ] while you search for that dreamed job !

In today life, how to survive without money? Asking from parent/friends? How long and how many times? Again the issue of 'maruah' come in here !

Another saying - talked money, spoiled relationship !

But don't worry, because i have seen people[male] never wanted to works even after married ! OMG ! I do rather die !

3 months half dead, 6 months die already.

If you're anak Datuk who only knows how to ketuk, or anak Menteri who only knows how to curi, then there's no need to worry. But if you're an ordinary people, no need to wait 6 months, 3 months dah mati dah.

sure lah worry, soru can miss, malu some more, where to hide face my friend. unless you got a lot of money in the bank

luv2seashore1
I'd worry but then again I don't know you and how hard you may or may not be looking for work. If you need money.........which we all do......then get out there and do some moving and shaking. There must be something out there for you, even if it's manual labor, which I have done plenty of that to survive. Happy job hunting!

niksie19
figure out what youre happy doing, and figure out how to work towards that. but if it means avoiding being homeless, or being a financial burden on someone else, then please, get a job, and figure out how to obtain your dreams while also being financially independant.

IF you are jobless after six month you hate probably your job. Find a other job in new sector.

I was jobless for about 3 years in my early 20's. Whether you should worry or not, it depends on the individual. Drugs & alcohol can be a problem.

Yes, sure worry. For me people who is still studying can live a life like that (even some students still looking for a job during holiday), but if you're not studying anymore go get a job as fast as you can.

No, if you have enough money to live for 6 months. If you don't, yeah you need to worry.
