Strictly speaking, Taipei is the provisional capital of the Republic of China (ROC). Why is it a provisional capital? Because the Chinese mainland is occupied by the communist party and PRC is considered an illegitimate regime by ROC. |

Yes it is.
The people who say Taipei is in China are the people who live in China and/or are Chinese. I've lived in four countries in three continents, I've been all over the world, I have friends of every nationality possible, and I've NEVER heard of it being called a city in China. |

I think that you are asking this question because the PEOPLE's Republic of China (the communist mainland or BIG China) insists on calling Taiwan "Chinese Taipei". The truth is, that Taiwan is a de facto country now for 60 years, and Taipei is the Capital city. |
