Watch the movie. If it's a horror or thriller or action movie based on a book I'd rather watch the movie, and spare myself with all the boring chapters.
if it's harry potter then I'd rather read the book first then watch the movie. |

Both.. to increase appreciation level of the story like The Joy Luck Club. The story revolved around four sets of mothers and daughters. After reading the book, it was already easy for me to follow the story in the movie. |

i usually prefer the book. the last book turned into a movie i read was 'the kite runner' by khaled hosseini. the movie was, as expected, not too good.
when you see a movie, everything is basically fed to you. what you see is limited to the movies budget and length. while reading a book, your imagination is limitless. |

Movie... for me, visualization is much better than imagination... |

I prefer to read the book because is it more illustrative and descriptive. And you can picture out the plot of the story with your own imagination. You'll get to appreciate the story better than seeing it in a movie. |

I guess, it depends.
Just like the movie "The Da Vinci Code", I prefer the book rather than the movie itself. |

I think reading the book is always better because it gives you way more details, it is easier to understand, and you get in to the character more than in a movie. |

read book bcs. normally when they have that on movies they often edit the story and its not all the same... but you can go for both its fun to have something to compare... |

i always prefer the book as the movie will always be the "edited" version with so many of the book scenes cut to fit the movie time frame. |

the book's much better for me. usually, the movie pales in comparison |

both
bc i just couldn't imagine the visual effects without seeing the film and in reading, some segments are just not shown where it would be beyond imaginations. |

Book is way much better then the movies.
I've read Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code for the nth time.
The movie version pales to comparison. |

I'd always rather read the book, THEN see the movie.
So, to answer the question, read the book... and see how the original writer meant for the story to be told.
Hope that helps. |

The book is pretty much always better. You get more details with a book. You get more background and more about the emotions of the characters with a book. The book is written the way the author wants you to know her story, the movie is usually changed at least a little. I can't remember ever saying (or hearing) "The movie was SO much better than the book!", it's always ""The book was SO much better!". |

book because there are more detailed events and you can picture the characters in your mind the way you like them! |

Before.. I usually buy a book before watching it in the movie but now.. I prefer watching the movie for my time management. <*-*> |

The book is far better to read than actually watching the movie itself. In a nutshell, the movie is simply a condensed, edited and at times, censored version of the book. |

The majority of the time, the book is far more poignant, moving and meaningful than the movie. On the other hand, without reading the book beforehand, the movie can still be exceptional. Case in point...I saw LA Confidential the movie long before I read the book, and was very impressed with the movie. After I read the book, however, I was able to discern the sacrifices the movie makers had to make to fit the movie into a two hour period that the author of the book did not need to make. |

I find to read the book is better, as a book is not choppes into a 2 hour sequence, and because I love to read, and can read for hours on end. |

well both are good.
but for me,
i feel much better in seeing the movie than reading the book.
i know book is better, if the person is really fond or interested in every details of the story.
but i'm not fond of reading, especially longer ones.
soo. i much appreciate movie, even though it's just shows the plot. well the important is, 'to know the flow of the story' :] |

What movies or book? It depends. |

I always prefer both... I read the book then watch the movie...then read the book again and again and again until I can fully understand and memorize the story and complain about the movie being far from the original story in the book and regret that I watched it, yet, I still bought a copy of that movie.
Take Lord of The Rings trilogy for instance, I've watched the movies, bought the books, and bought dvd's...
I never tire watching them... |

....<3<3....pshh?

both is great |

I think both would be better. In a book, you get to read the whole story, uncut. You let your imagination run freely as each chapter unfolds. However, I like to see the story in a film too where every scene in the book comes alive, not only in your imagination. |
