Thailand offers are plenty depending on what your interests are. On the cultural front, Bangkok itself has plenty of historical sites. You should visit the Grand Temple, which is just in front of the Sanam Lueng open park. The temper itself served before as an inner city with all the ministries inside. Now, acts as royal religion celebration centre and host of the famour emerald Buddha statue. Around the area, there are many Wat (temple) like Marble Temple, Wat Trimitr with about 5 ton of solid gold buddha statue. Once you get here, spend a day or two in Bangkok visiting all these national museum and temple, which are close by.
Then, I would suggest you go east to island like Samed Island, spend a couple of days laying in the sun of the beaches of the island with beautiful green and blue waters.
Then, go north to Chiang Mai, now quite a good weather visiting the exhibition on the botanic things now on show. Also in the north esp. in Chiang mai visit the mountain like Doi Suthep, Doi Inthanon (the peak highest of Thailand), Doi Angkhang, Doi Tow (Turtle) all of them are beautiful especially in the time of December to January with lots of beautiful flowers. You could then buy an elephant back-riding trip and water rafting.
Then, visit northern south and middle south like Krabi, Surat Thani and Phuket, there are many beautiful beaches like PP island, and what they called James Bond island, where once the movie was made.

Really, it depends on what you looking for. Play golf, shopping, or just laying on the beach. There is also an open zoo in the northeast call Kaho Yai, and Phu Rue where there are lots of first class resorts and hotels.

I love the backpacker area of bangkok called the Kao San Rd, as it is very vibrant with its street stalls and bars and it is very near the river and palace. There are lots of hotels around there of varying quality. If you want to go diving, Koh Tao is the best island, then Kao Samui is good just for hanging out at the beach etc. The north is very interesting with hill top villages and elephant sanctuaries situated around Chang Mai.

In bangkok there are so many hotels you can book a few days then go find somewhere cheaper.

ALWAYS insisit on meters in taxis.

ALWAYS ONLY book busses esp vip ones at an OFFICIAL bus terminal... ie no TATs (travel agents ). Or trains ie sleepers... You dont save money more like have an awful trip and loose bags trying to be smart and cheap instead of official busses.

The subway and monorail is excellent and motorcycel taxis are good with travel. And the local kids like break dancing and cinema like you.

AVOID ping pong shows ie upstairs bars... the same idea as soho clip joints ie you go in, girl sits next to you, you get a drink, want to leavel only door looked by big dudes demanding lots of money...

You are fine in gogo bars, just get hastled to sit down and get a normal drink and can'pull' the girls.

Or just go to normal Thai clubs and bars...

Kao Toh for diving and chilling out.

Jungle trek in chang mai (leave a week), thai cooking class... street food is yum yum

Transvestite shows in big hotels are very good... not kinky mlike broaway shows.

In kho san road got a night for 150 Bhatt, easy to find around there 400bhatt, in big excellent hotels huge room for 800 bhatt or pay 1200bhatt from uk bookings.... get the idea/

the bel-aire princess hotel is in a great location & not expensive & its vey clean ,within walking distance to skytrain & main shopping area ( sukimvit rd ) @ 100 yards
there,s a bar in the same st called gullivars for FREE internet & good food ( soi 5)
the skytrain is very easy to use all the staff speak english & its cheep , dont go on a tuk tut the trafic fumes will kill you

When you arrive make your way to Ko San Road, that's the area of Thailand where all the travellers go, the you have a choice of whether to go north or south both are great so if you have time then do both.

North: Chang Mai, Golden Triangle, Pai

South: Karabi and Ko Phi Phi if you prefer quite and Ko Samui and Ko Pagn Nagn if you like a party.

do a scuba-diving course they are really cheap and are normally padi certified i recommend you to go to Koh Tao you can get a bus from Bangkok to the coast and geta ferry to the small island there are lots of company's doing diving in fact its the main reason why people go there i used skuba shack and they were cool. Bankok is a bit of a shock to the system so be prepared.

One of the best restaurants is Cabbages and Condoms all the profits go to their Aids awareness Charity and you get a free condom and the end of your meal. They also have a store which you can buy ornaments made out of condoms (don't worry they are not in obscene shapes flowers and stuff)
For around Â£35 a night quite a lot in Thailand you can stay in the Hilton, I stayed there it's a little out of the way but worth it as your treated like royalty. You can hop on their boat to cross the river where you can get the sky train which costs as little as Â£1.50 for a day ticket and takes you round the main parts of the city.
What i can't stress enough is the brilliant Groovy Map which you can buy on line. it is one of the best guides i have had much easier to read and understand than the AA or Lonely Planet guide.
But for a guide for the rest of Thailand South East Asia on a shoestring is good, but if it is your first time you can easily find a travel agent on every corner or street in the popular areas which will have hundreds of trips to go on and try. If you like home comforts (Starbucks, McD's, Baskin and Robins, Bowling alleys Bungee jumps) Phuket and Koh Sumi are your place to be but if you want sandy beaches and quite you should try Koh Tao or Koh Phang Nang. All the major resorts have recovered since the Tsunami, so you wont have trouble finding anywhere to stay on the islands.
I know it is exspensive Â£120.00 round trip from Bangkok to Phuket to Koh Sumi but flying is best way to travel you get there is less than a hiur to each destination, whereas boat or bus can take over a day, and waste precious holiday enjoyment time.
Thailand is basically the Costa del Sol of Eastern Asia, there is everything and anything for all ages, just try whats out there most likely you will enjoy it.

But the best thing to remember is that as soon as you get out of Bangkok airport ignore everyone and head for the green/yellow pink and blue taxis these are metered and state you want the meter on as they will charge you 600 baht for a trip metered will cost 300 baht

Common Sense is the key don't get in a taxi that looks doggey as the hotel how much a taxi or tuk tuk (which are fun) should cost and walk away if they want to charge you too much.
If you want to see the red light district you don't have to go into the closed door bars they will often charge you to leave and will be full of dirty old men (well you probably already guesed that).
You can view it if you want of course, from a open air street bar.
If you like the club scence one of the most popular Farang (Thai for travelers quite offensive word actually) the Green Mango is quite good not so much a dance bar just a good place to partyyyyyy.!!!!!

Hi there, you want the best of Thailand? I will say most are located outside of Bangkok! Well, again this will depend on what you deem to be the best for yourself. You can look at www.tourismthailand.org for information on Thailand to see what interest you. Package the places you have time for and move on from there.

I do have suggestions for you depending on your interest. Culture? Historical sites? etc etc. I can even offer you some ideas of what you can expect and do along the way. If you like you can contact me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com with your wants during your stay and let me take it from there.

If you make it to Koh Samui and/or Koh Tao, don't forget Koh Phangan in the middle! We're not all drugs and giant trance raves (although if that's your thing look up the Full Moon Party). If you come sometime other than full moon you'll find secluded beaches, snorkling, jungle hiking, great food, relaxed atmosphere, and the usual Thai smiles. :)

I would skip Bangkok though, unless you really want to see the craziness for yourself. Maybe spend one day there on your way in then move on. Unless you're well travelled you'll probably get scammed repeatedly and end up feeling a little bitter about humanity.

Chiang Mai in the north is a much nicer city with much nicer people in it. Stay in a guesthouse near/in the old city and visit the big weekend market there.

Can l come with you? You will have a great time .... lm not sure of places to stay now in Banhkok but there will be people at the airport that will take you to various hotels etc until you find one you like - while there visit Chaing Mai in the north - superb place with hillside tribes, jungle treks and so on - to finish off go to Ko Samui, a white sand island at the bottom of Thailand .. send me a postcard!
