â™¡Visually, no, I can not. And I live in Japan! The only way I can usually be sure is when they speak. It's easier to distinguish between the languages. Even a name can't be a clue, I'm American and have a Japanese last name, so...â™¡

I think it has more to do with the skin. Japanese have an islander or Polynesian look to the skin.

chinese people have pale skin and japanese have more coloured skin

Yes. I think Japanese eyes sort of droops down on the sides while chinese eyes goes up?.....

If they talk we should know easily -- unless the person we observe knows BOTH languages so well.
Body language also reveals a lot -- but again, if that person lives in the other country long enough, then it is hard to tell the difference.

Only if they're obliging enough to wear their national costume or wave their country's flag!!

I live in Japan, and I can tell you that you can NOT judge by skin-tone ... as White skin varies in both texture and colour, so does Oriental skin! There are Japanese and Chinese people with dark tans right now, and there are also some who are so fair you have to look twice to see if they're Oriental or not...! I'm not talking about mixed blood either, just Oriental / Asian (whatever term you want to use.)

Everyone is different, and just because someone is Chinese or Japanese doesn't take away that inherent individuality of appearance..!

I've spent time in both China and South Korea and still can't tell the difference!

there's no instant point that can tell the difference. but I can tell if they start talking.

I tried the test and I got 13/18. I am Chinese and I believe I can tell the difference between Chinese/Korean/Japanese with some accuracy. One thing you have to take into account is for Chinese, there are differences in the look of those from Taiwan, China, and the Hong Kong/Macau region.

honestly I took the test given here.. I got 50/50 score..yes I admit I have hard time telling the difference, but if they say a word or speak to each other in anywhere around me..I would surely tell the difference... even they are Japanese, koreans, Chinese..
Visually NO, not hundred percent chance,,but 5o/50 score for me is still bad,,

.well this is a good question ...think Asian people Japanese or Chinese would be hard to tell difference at all by their faces only.

My lovely, gorgeous boyfriend is chinese but he says he can't really tell just by looking, however, he could tell them apart by their mannerisms..Well, language is the obvious of course.

I took the test and only got 6. I live in Japan and reckon I could tell if someone was Japanese or not if I met them. Its more to do with the way they act and behave rather than how they visually appear. Clothing also is a hint.

I also think Korean-Japanese is much closer than Chinese-Japanese.

Yup. There is a major difference. If you interact with people from all over asia you can easily tell the differences in their accents and facial features.
