they have a couple of great shopping mall. Wan Utama and MegaMall. If u are looking for local arts and crafts go to Central Market. If u are interested in piracy softwares and latest DVD releases you can go to Sungei Wang and Lau Yat. Incidently all these places are within the vicinity of the capital Kuala Lumpur. |
|

It smells...
|
I would choose Sungei Wang Plaza, lots of boutiques there, gadget shops, and a family entertainment centre! |

Depends what you are looking for, but if you go to 'pasar malam', they have cheap clothing there.
Jaya Jusco has some good and reasonably priced clothes.
KLCC, Star Hill, Lot 10, well, those are top-end shopping centres, branded goods, hardly worth the cash, seriously.
I think electronic goods are cheap there, one of the cheapest country that i have been to. Low Yat plaza, Sungei Wang have best cheap electronic goods. |

The capital, Kuala Lumpur. There are a number of megamalls there. So that tells you you have plenty of choices when you visit. Best? You have to come and decide for yourself! Too many!
i am Singaporean, shopping in Malaysia! |

Depending on where you are from will affect your bargains.
Local made items are your best bets. Hand painted fabrics (cotton or silk), wood carvings (many made in Thailand), and other hand crafts.
For quality stuff that you won't find just any where, check out Royal Selangor pewter.
While gold prices are high everywhere, and Thailand has better prices the price of 22k jewelry is much cheaper than other places in the world. The gold is real, however the lower labor costs lower the cost of the finished item.
As a rule electronics are not a good deal, if you are from U.S. I priced laptops, cameras, cell phones etc. and found they were 10 to 25 percent higher than U.S. prices. For Europeans if you look hard, you may find a deal and you won't have that darn VAT tax. If you do need to buy Low Yat Plaza will be your best bet. The higher the floor the lower the price.
Malls were not that good for shopping, unless you forgot to bring something from home. BB Plaza does offer some nice little shops, KLCC is pretty (not to mention you can go out the back door, enjoy the park, and shoot a great picture of the towers). Mid Valley, One Utama and Sunway were just the average run of the mill malls. Times Square is nice for rainy days, has several indoor activities.
Central Market offers a lot of local crafted items. Only a couple of blocks away is what we nick named "knock off alley" Fun to shop, fun to watch people, great snacks... just remember your local laws about bringing in knock offs.
If you will be in other areas of Malaysia than KL, shopping is better. Small local owned shops have a flavor of their own.
WARNING! No matter where you shop, keep an eye on your credit card. I did have my info stolen from a small shop in BB Plaza. Also if you go to Melaka, and plan to buy antiques, make sure you know what you are buying. I found a lot of fakes being past off as antiques. |
