It was on the news last night. The Bureau of Food and Drugs warned the public Tuesday against some Chinese candies and cookies that tested positive for formaldehyde, a disinfectant linked to cancer in humans.
It banned Milk Candy, Bairong Grape Biscuits, Yong Kang Foods, and White Rabbit candies for being tainted—although it said the White Rabbit brand of candies made in the Philippines were safe.
The bureau has expanded its list of products for testing to include toothpaste suspected of containing unspecified “heavy metals,” the bureau’s Deputy Director, Joshua Ramos, said yesterday without elaborating.
Major supermarkets and malls have 15 to 30 days to remove the contaminated items.
A crackdown on distributors and outlets is already being done by the NBI and BFD here. The Bureau of Customs is also watching over and not releasing products from China that are not yet tested by the BFD. |

Its on the news last night TFC - TV Patrol.
Those things are TRUE and verified by both parties/government.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ARE:
1. Always check the labels, brands of stuff you are buying.
2. Do not buy something from China especially foods. |

it seems capitalism is setting in with Chinese society.
Greed seems to supersede Honor when it comes to business.
If you remember, 4 years ago we had a steel shortage in North America caused by hording on the Asian side of manufacturing. When the mills cried for more raw material, the Chinese cancelled all of their contracts and turned the boats around and headed home. This effectively raised our price as they released cheaper steel back into their own market. This also gave them a competitive edge on the world market.
However, I find that they do not Honor contracts or warranties unless it is solely beneficial to them.
Recently, here in Canada, they found that they had made and sold a cheap knock off battery that was prone to over heat and explode. They used a brand with a good reputation, copied its packaging and sold a cheap battery as a premium battery. These pirated batteries became very dangerous and China's official response was that they are looking into it, but nobody was ever brought to justice.
China is showing very poor business practises in the world market right now and this is related to the lack of care in consumer products and the lack of respect for copy rights, brand names, safety or health.
In case you didn't know, their last official person in charge of health and safety was sentenced to death for sending potentially hazardous foods to North America |

Yes I have Big C! Honestly, I was shocked when they featured the White Rabbit. I love White Rabbit! It's so chewy and sweet. Nakakagigil nguyain! I'm not fond of the local version though. |

Yup, too bad. Also that tinapa from the street vendor laced with formaldehyde.
I saw that news as well. I liked those white White Rabbit with edible wrapper. So much for cheap Chinese food products.
As much as possible we should eat only fresh meat/veggies cooked at home. |

Thanks for letting us know, big chuck. Those candies are available here in the US...most Asian stores carry them.
And those white rabbit candies are available in "eatable" wrappers (i.e., no need to unwrap...eat as is)...ewww. |

i haven't.
but i wouldn't be surprised for there have been a string of issues with several products coming from china in recent months, not just food and food ingredients used to make other processed foods, but also low quality kids toys and other everyday stuff we use, that makes them dangerous and life threatening.
thanks for sharing. |

You bet. Recently, we had a scandal of Iranian produced apples being coated with red colored wax to pass off in the market as Washington Reds. KFC's chicken nuggets were apparently made of chicken skin and no meat....
And, I once saw on TV that chicken for export in Brazilian poultry farms were fed pellets made of soy protein combined with extracts of cat and dog guts from stray animals that are slain in the dog pound etc...
Yukkkk is all I can say. |
