I havent't tried Starbucks Philippines yet but I luv starbucks here in North America not only because of its' name but primarily because of its' taste. We have a lot of high end cafes here but people still go to Starbucks because of the quality that they are giving their custumers. Hot or cold coffees, they are all good.
It's pricy because they have to follow the price standard of Starbucks. Remember it is a franchise so, they have to follow the franchisors policies as to the prices and products are involved.
They can't lower the price there in the Philippines just because they are in a third world or developing country. Still, they need to meet the standard because as franchisees, they are paying the royalty to the franchisors. |

theres nothing special about starbucks. Its nothing but a plain coffee.
But here in philippines, a lot of "social climbers" went to starbucks not because they want to drink coffee. They ordered coffee, and seat outside the coffee shop, wait for someone to see them drinking "Expensive" coffee.(P100+ vs P20+).

well for the fact that it is imported, that's makes it expensive and drives people to become fussy about it. Starbucks claim that they check all the taste of the coffees in the world to compare to theirs makes them conventional. |

Coffee is nothing got to do with having the same cup taste when you go from one branch to another. It is called personal whim. Coffee is much like wine, some like red, some white. Some like Merlot, some like Cabernet, some like Shiraz so and so forth. I personally like Kirkland Colombian Coffee because it has more body and dark caramel taste with dark chocolaty after tone , than say Maxwell House's French Roast. Some like it off espresso machine, I like it off french press or off filter drip. Some like bleached filter, I like Unbleached Filter (Brown).
Most Starbucks goers like coffee without a doubt, but they like to be seen drinking at that establishment more than the actual coffee. Some like Figaro, some like Seattle's Best, some like San Francisco Best, some like Coffee Bean. They are all the same, and sell expensive coffee that greatly nothing got to do with the actual coffee, just whim.
Most Coffee from these establishment cost P100.00+ per order. My coffee, which I brew every morning is Kirkland Colombian and cost P600 +/ can and it is good for 3-4 months worth for me. And if once in every blue moon, I visit coffee houses, I order Double Espresso. No cafe latte, no machiatto, no cafe americano, no Irish, Amaretto flavors... just plain Espresso.
But please no Mc Donalds or Jollibee coffee, I would rather drink Nescafe 3 in 1 than their socks soaked drink they pass as coffee. |

I don't see anything special about it but the name brand that's it...
I'd rather buy the inexpensive one's that'll give me a caffeine buzz but not at a ridiculous price... |

It is more of a status symbol and a convenience. The coffee does taste better and there are more choices that going to a gas station to get your morning caffeine, but the price is outrageous. It is a status symbol, much like driving a BMW instead of a Nissan. Cost more, basically the same thing and options. Starbucks does have a wide selection in flavor though. As opposed to gas station coffee. Save some money, get coffee at the store, brew it at home, and put it in a travel mug. They have all kinds of flavors where you grind your own coffee. Plus you are helping the environment because you are not throwing away your coffee mug vs. the starbucks cup. |

Many people equate high price with quality. If something costs more, it must be a superior product.
Then there are other people who enjoy feeling like members of the wealthy elite when they pay a ridiculous amount of money for something ordinary. If Gucci made a $20 handbag, I promise you that you wouldn't see them in the swanky stores on Rodeo Drive.
The truth is, Starbucks coffee didn't do so well in blind taste tests. The top rated coffee was actually from McDonald's and the second place winner was Dunkin' Donuts. |

it's just flavored coffee that you are drinking but what is more important or special is the place. that's where cool people hang out. |

All the above answers: WRONG
The 'correct' and reason behind starbucks is having a 'uniform' way of serving coffee. That way you can walk into any of their coffee shops anywhere and get the same cup of coffee made exactly the same.
They have standards and training so that it will be like this across the world.
I'm not saying that his makes it worth spending 4 bucks on a drink its just the reason why. Furthermore, the taste standards they go by are based off of coffee connoisseurs opinions and why some people dislike the taste. |

5 years ago, CD's worth 450 pesos
but the pirated now may cost only 15-25 pesos
so the legal ones have to lower their prices. |

None. Starbucks coffee is made for those narcissistic people who think drinking a $3.75 coffee is a sign of class, wealth and achievement
Well, I'm happy with my achievement but I try not to flaunt a classy and wealthy attitude. And I prefer my own home- brewed coffee.
But, I'll leave it up to the saying "to each his own". |

The answer: absolutely nothing. Many think that because it costs 100 pesos, it must be better. |
