There is a great website called flychina.com that offers great prices. From JFK to Shanghai is about $974. From Newark to Beijing (direct flight), it's about $915. These prices are a little more expensive than usual. I booked a flight from Boise to Shanghai during June-July 2006 in December and it costed about $823, which was really good. Check back with the website often.

When you are ready to book, you'll send them an request via their website with all the dates. Usually it's the same day that they will notify you by email if their are seats available. If you decide to purchase the ticket, you'll fax a form that you can print off the internet with all your information on it. Then after a couple of days, they mail you either a e-ticket invoice or paper tickets. There may be more steps than some travel websites, it's worth it to get airplane tickets that cheap.

Too soon to plan it now. Check it out about 2 months before taking off. Most likely, fly Korean Airline was the cheapest one. But I can't trust their pilots. They flew through Russian and they'd got shot down for safety reason years ago...Let's your call...
