CHRISTMAS Of the major Christian festivals, Christmas is the most recent in orgin. The name, a contraction of the term Christ's mass," did not come into use until the Middle Ages. In the early part of the fourth century, Christians in Rome begin to celebrate the birth of Christ. The practice spread widely and rapidly, so that most parts of the Christian world observed the new festival by the end of the century. No evidence remains about the exact date of the birth of Christ. The December 25 date was chosen as much for practical reasons as for theological ones. Throughout the Roman Empire, various festivals were held in conjunction with the winter solstice. In Rome, the Feast of the Unconquerable sun celebrated the beginning of the return of the sun. When Christianity became the religion of the Empire, the church either had to suppress the festivals or tranform them. The winter solstice seemed an appropriate time to celebrate Christ birth. Thus, ths festival of the sun became a festival of the Son, the light of the world. Wake up people and read the Bible. |

well..i share the views of the writer of the article, but of course that is our personal faiths..and i strongly believe that in a country where liberty and freedom are said to be prevailing..everyone is entitled to his own beliefs, and others are simply expected to respect that.
the social and religious aspects of every society are indeed intricately intertwined, most often than not, the faith of the majority gains the favor of the laws as well as of the branding of being the "culture" of the said nation. Though it can be viewed as a little biased, I dont (personally) see it as offending or anything displeasing.
I dont believe in christmas, and i dont celebrate it (because it wasnt taught by the bible, the practice of celebrating it can be traced from paganism, and most importantly, JC wasnt born on the month of december). BUT I DONT DESPISE IT. I kinda like the aura of christmas hehehe, it is such an overwhelming feeling to see and feel much love on the air on this particular season. |

It's the time of the year where I heave a sigh of relief that I can take a breather from work after finishing it for the year. It is also the time of the year where I will hear and breathe Xmas in departmental stores, lots of sales egging me on to spend, spend, spend......to crack my head to think of what present to buy for the office party gift exchange!
For some of us, it is also the time of year where we sit back and think of how to show our love to the family, esp if we have not been spending enough time with them during the past year. So, the reason for breaking the wallet on presents to sort of making amends for a guilt we feel! |

Christmas, taken on as a subject of observation, is, without a doubt a major source of material, to say the least.
At a time that people should be thinking of the gift that we received from our Creator, the entire world goes rabid for things and thoughts of self indulgence to the point of overload.
At the heart of Christ's birth is Peace... yet, we look around at this time of year and only see chaos.
It's also of major interest to me that the atheists have no problem with "cashing in" on the season as well.
To me, the season is much better spent in as quiet a place of solitude as one can find... with retrospect to those things that mean the very most to us... and the simple things that make our lives truly ... worth living.
Merry
Christmas

It's a time of year to give to your community and/or the world. Also, it's the time to re-connect with your family. It's like Valentine's Day to your world. Give to the charities you're soft-hearted to. Donate money or your time to the less fortunate. Just give something to someone who needs something you can provide. Even if it's just a dollar in the Salvation Army bucket at K-Mart, give a little something. Almost anyone can put a dollar in the bucket once!
It's a great time of year to put yourself in the position of the less fortunate, and do something about it. You don't have to donate a ton of cash or a kidney...just give to the charity of your choice.
It's the season of giving. Just do it.
All the best to all y'all for the holiday season! |

i love it.
but people loose the meaning of it, more and more lately.
it's not about the gifts or presents.
it's about caring and thinking of Jesus, and how that'd be his birthday but he dies for us.
