Manila, of course. Otherwise, why would the Cebu elite (the lifestyle trendsetters), young and old, take their customary shopping visits to Manila? And their customary "be seen" visits to the Greenbelt 3 restaurants?
And why would Cebu's elite make sure they have Metro Manila homes, while the opposite is not true (Metro Manila's lifestlyle icons do not strive to have a Cebu home). And why would they send their kids to Metro Manila schools? Isn't education a lifestyle statement?
And what is "lifestyle"? There is nothing in Cebu that comes even a teeny weeny bit close to The Embassy at the Fort, or Greenbelt 3 which was rated as one of the best architecturally designed restaurant-shops complexes in the whole world. What about the Ayala Museum, and a host of other museums. What about the Cultural Center of the Philippines?
Also, If by Cebu it is meant Cebu and its environs, surely Manila must mean Metro Manila and its environs. Thus, within short drives from Manila would be picturesque Tagaytay, the Cavite and Batangas beaches, Punta Fuego and Tagaytay Highlands, etc. These things come in with the Manila lifestyle, by sheer proximity.
What about the negatives? Traffic? I have seen worse traffic in Cebu. Filth? See Colon, a major major avenue in Cebu. I am not putting Cebu down, merely saying we need to get real and not look only at what is beautiful in our choice and juxtapose the beauty with the ugliness of the other city.
This piece may sound unpopular and rather brash, considering that Cebu seems to be the popular answer among the previous answerers. Nothing personal here, and these people, I am certain, really and truly feel Cebu has the better lifestyle. I also have a lot of friends in Cebu. While I respect their opinion, I just happen to think otherwise. And I expect my opinion to be similarly recognized (you do not have to agree, nah!). |

Cebu has a better lifestyle. The place is not that stressful compared to Manila. You can easily get out of Cebu and go to neighboring islands like Bohol, ****** and even as far as Leyte for a vacation. Cebu is the transport hub of the Visayas and even Mindanao region. There are enough shopping malls and entertainment centers to go around. There are also outlaying islands surrounding Cebu that you can visit, like Olango Island, a bird sanctuary, Malapascua Island in the north, known for diving and Bantayan Island which is a favorite Cebuano getaway in the north. Cebu is known for furniture making, guitars, mangoes, food and festivities. They are proud of their culture. And most of all, the pollution level in the city is lesser compared to Manila. |

Cebu City again! because the people set their trends, fashion and the "in" thing. they have their marked originality not being a copycat. In Cebu, they don't look down a cebuano.
in Cebu, they don't ask " bisaya ka dong?" "bisaya ka day?" |

I prefer Manila (actually Metro Manila) because...
* I prefer a faster-paced lifestyle. Being laid-back means being lazy to me.
* It has more entertainment and activity options. Cinemas, zoos, an IMAX, ice skating rinks, bars, theaters, theme parks, open parks, museums, art galleries, churches, clubs, shopping malls, restaurants of various cuisines, etc etc etc.
* The people are more diverse.
* More job opportunities.
* Better schools. |

I'm not sure what lifestyle are you asking about?
If youre asking about the way of living between people of Manila and people of Cebu... I would choose the lifestyle of a Cebuano...
If you mean choosing where to live Manila or Cebu, it all depends.. if you prefer to have a life that is fast paced then go for Manila. |

Depends on the person really. Different people like different things. However as for me Manila is a good place for partying, socialising and shopping. Though it does have some not so good points as all cities in the world are concerned. It's a good place if your young and are into having a good time. |

From a Canadian's point of view. Cebu is the winner. The small barrios on the outer edges of Cebu City, are great in just about every way. Need to participate in the Modern nightlife? Hop on a jeepney into downtown, where all the amenities of a big city can be found.
The most friendly of peoples are there in Cebu. Manila is too caught up in the rush to survive. |

I have never been to Cebu, but I have been living here in Manila for almost 40 yrs. now, yet, havn't seen or experience any style that would have made my life any better. |

I have been to Manila one or two times I am not sure that it counts because it was only to catch a plane on the way to Leyte. But, I have been to Cebu and I noticed the people are a lot friendlier and the weather is a lot cooler than Manila. So, I would say Cebu. |

metro manila wins hands down (for me anyways)
cebu is ok but i got bored after just a week. I mean yes, i can hop to beaches and other islands but the main city was not really much compared to metro manila's makati, alabang, and ortigas areas... the ayala mall in cebu looked like the divisoria mall (no offense) and so unkept... the only thing i liked in cebu were the people and the beaches... but as for the lifestyle... i'd go for manila |

I'm not sure... I haven't been to Cebu yet though...
But I think Makati is good too... |

Cebu City has a better lifestyle - food is cheaper there and beach front not far from the city. Manila is very populated and not only polluted. |

Cebu. You get the best of both worlds. A mixture of the old and the new, a fast-paced cosmopolitan lifestyle in a slow-paced city. And the advantage gets more enticing when the purchasing power of your peso almost doubles that of Manila. When translated - living in Cebu is very much cheaper; basic necessities, luxuries, coffee shops/bars, clothing, schools etc. to mention just a few. And traveling to different areas of Cebu like the beach and other exciting sights to see poses no problem, even for first-time travelers to the place. |

Manila because all my life I've been here and witnessed how many Cebuanos are going here in Manila to find a job...if they are satisfied with their kind of living in Cebu, they would've not go here and find their fate in a place so crowded yet, I may say, progressive... |

Both have their good points, both their not so good points.
Metro Manila has a lot to offer by way of entertainment and food, hotels, and an international lifestyle. But Metro Manila is also grossly polluted. The old part of the city of Manila, which had the opportunity to have charm and ambiance of a bygone era, is a mess due to political ineptitude and laziness - it's a shame.
Cebu is nice, but still rather provincial. The air is clean and there is a growing and developing lifestyle.
Depends on what you want, but if it's good health, Cebu is best. |
