What are some of the reasons people like to retire in the Philippines?

Here is few of the reasons that I can think of:

1- They want to be with the one they love knowing that Filipinas are not demanding as other women from other cultures. They make the man feel like a man and give him that comfort and tender love, so why not live with them in their own country.

2- Most foreign nationals living in the country are on fixed income or retirement check of around $1000 a month. If living in the states, this can hardly cover your monthly rental. Turn this into Peso and you get 41000 and that is a lot for the Philippines.

3- Medical and health services are very cheap in the Philippines, unlike what western countries has to offer. This is why you find many people over the age of 50 residing there.

4- Easy and simple life, away from all the hustle and bustle of the big city and this is why you find most foreign nationals living in provinces. Also the beauty and nature of the country, the water, the beaches that you can enjoy without breaking the bank.

5- The Philippine Government make it easy for foreign nationals to live, reside, work and retire in the Philippines as long as they meet certain financial criteria which is pretty affordable and cheap for so many westerners.

6- The warm and hospitable people of the Philippines make it easy to adopt to their way of living not to mention most speak english and that makes it easier for communication. Also family values is another reason that attracts people to the Philippines.

1. I met my wife, a Filipina,
2. it's cheaper than US (especially the NJ taxes)
3. Don't have to shovel snow and
4. Weather, view, and people are nice.

For one our government has a program specifically for that, to attract foreigners to invest here by retiring in the Philippines (Philippine Retirement Authority)--there are perks that come with that:
www.pra.gov.ph
If you are referring to "coming home" of Filipino immmigrants, well, it's quite understandable, one has missed his country of birth for decades and after much accomplishment (financial, career, family) it is quite a common desire for such people to want to come home and retire.

Phils. the Pearl of the Orient.
Manila the capital of the Phils. is very modern now. Adapted to the foreign taste. And most of all very affordable living for some foreign people. For those Filipina who are married to foreigners and away for a long time ...... it's the feeling, there is no place like home.
Beautiful tropical weather. Lots of unspoiled places to visit and to enjoy really. Lovely and beautiful people. Hospitable and kind hearted people. Great food and lots of interesting things to do and to visit.
Gov't is not that hard and strict as well.
Anyway as long as you've got the necessary means to live and support your living, Phils is a paradise place to be.

There are plenty of reasons and the main one is the cost of living. it's relatively much lower than what the west is used to. so, your pension money will go a long way and will let you live a little comfortably. the others here are right. old people here are treated very well. we don't put our old ones to nursing homes. we take care of them personally and are still given the highest regards and respect that they've earned and deserved. we do that in appreciation to their years of sacrifice for us when they were still young and strong so we're just giving back what we owe them.

one more thing, the Philippine government has launched a special program tailored fit for foreigners who have chosen to spend their retirement years here. the program has made the country a lot friendlier to retirees of all countries in the world.

1 - It is fairly inexpensive to live there.
2 - There are decent healthcare facilities.
3 - Weather.
4 - Friendly people.
5 - For some it's because most filipinops speak at least a little english.

Because apparently they're really good to old people there.
Really. They don't just shove them in homes and make them eat rotten oatmeal like we do here. They take care of the elderly, and I think that's really cool.

I like the Philippines but I don't think I could retire there.

I definitely would not retire there because of the cost of living, friendly people, food, beautiful surroundings, and such because I can find all those things here in the United States.

I would move there however for the low-cost of services and for what most men retire there for which is a much younger, beautiful woman because those are hard to come by in the United States.

After considering my pros and cons I will choose to retire here in the United States because it just makes sense.
