Driving rules?
"Do unto others before they get a chance to do unto you". |

Yes there is, basically it's "my vehicle is bigger and older than yours so get out of my way" |

always have 200-500 pesos handy and you can drive anywhere, in anyway you wanna go! police officers are as corrupt as you can imagine. they'd eat you're sh*t straight out of your a** for a price. |

From what i've seen in my travels there, there are no hard and fast driving rules. Wedge in when you can and drive as fast as possible. |

Of course there is. And if heaven forbid there is none (i don't drive) there's still the international law of driving. I guess why drivers drive the way they do is because either (1) implementation is not strict or it's inconsistent. An example is Subic, drivers follow road signs because there are officers around who will ticket and there is a stiff fine. (2) Driving with those crazy drivers around makes you crazy too, your travel time would be much longer if you don't match them.
That's my two cents worth :) |

There are certainly the same rules there as anywhere else in the world and if someone is reponsible for showing how not to drive it could be from those who always thought they were the world police. You drive on the right side of the road. And follow all the rules carfully then you do not have to carry to much money with you and remember that driving to fast there can be much more dangerous than in other countries espesially in the provinces some roads are very narrow and in the cities the traffic are pretty heavy during rush hours try to avoid this time of the day depending of where you are going but remember ofcourse to follow the speed limit even though the majority does not do that, and just drive as you would like others to drive. |

Rules they have.
Enforcement is the problem.
In the meantime, my driver needs a job and I don't need the aggrivation. |

Tricycles are the roaches,
Taxis and AUV are the vermin,
Jeepneys are the scum of the road,
Trucks and buses are the ultimate jackholes.
Keep a safe distance from them and you will be alright. |

I have been told it is legal to drive stradling the lane lines in Philippines ,but who knows |

Well, from what I heard it's because there's no Traffic or Motor Vehicle Enforcement or strict laws of which way traffic should be directed. In the USA there's one way signs, fines, and tickets if you make illegal U-turns, etc. |

You sure have a problem living here in paradise.....maybe you would be happier back in America
When people come to me and complain about the traffic here in the Philippines, I have to smile. I guess it is a matter of how you look at it.
In America, on average, 41,000 people are killed on our highways every year. One out of every four of those deaths is caused by "anger". Over 10,000 people killed every year just because someone got mad. We have even created a special label for the phenomenon. It is called "Road Rage". What is even more frightening, 80% of American drivers admit to being "angry" while they are driving and four out of five of those drivers carry a gun. I have had bullet holes put in the trunk of my car.
For me the traffic here is really not that bad. It is sort of like a "symphony in chaos". In all that chaos is a certain level of "civility and friendliness". People stop and let others go first. I rarely see anyone waving a clinched fist and screaming at another driver. The answer seems to be relax and learn to go with the flow. |
