With the limited time you have, you can start with Suntec City (this is where most conferences are held) shopping mall and the adjacement malls (Raffles City etc.) for your shopping needs. Orchard Road located in the tourist belt is another area to consider where there are upmarket fashion shops, supermarkets, restaurants and eating places, hotels, entertainment outlets etc. In the malls mentioned, there are also eating establishments that cater to the locals and tourists alike that are reasonably priced.
As for places of interest and cultural activities, head for Chinatown and Little India. In these places, you can buy souvenirs like trinkets, clothing made from batik, pewterware from Malaysia, to name a few. A must place to visit are the popular hawker centres where clusters of small stalls of different local cuisine (Chinese, Malay, Peranakan, Indian & Western) are being housed and the food prepared on the spot. One such place is Newton Circus. While in Singapore, do not forget to try the world-famous Singapore Sling (cocktail) at Raffles Hotel (named after its founder, Sir Stamford Raffles), dishes like Chilli crab, Hainanese Chicken Rice etc.
If time permits, you can hop into Sentosa island by bus or cable car (about 15 minutes ride) to view the Underwater World, museums etc. |

You probably have to see most of singapore by night you can actually pan some of these visits after the conference.
Try to visit the Night Sarfari - It opens at 7.30pm and closes at midnight when you get there you have to visit the mangrove walk (my fave)
Go over to Mustafar Shopping - where you get the best buys for purfumes, electronic etc. Its open 24hours. But I would recommend that you go a little early and have dinner around the area which is know as little india. After the conference etc take a cab down to Mustarfar and walk around the area find a nice local resturant and enjoy good authentic indian food. The smell and culture will give you something to remember. After dinner shop at Mustafar for stuff to bring home for friends and family.
Clubbing - If you enjoy dancing or a drink or two ... visit St James Powerhouse just opp Vivo City. I would catch a cable car ride from Mount Faber go straight into Sentosa - which you may want to walk around for a while then out again to Vivo City for some dinner. Walk around the mall and enjoy the sights then walk across to St James where 7 (i think) clubs are housed together.
Hope this gives you some stuff to do ... oh yes visit China Town for some great food as well |

I would recommend Clarke Quay and a riverboat trip. Shops - well there are thousands of them, it all depends on whether you want to buy something specific or just browse around. Chinatown is good, the zoo or bird park if you like animals. If you like open spaces go to East Coast Park and hire a bike and ride along the coastline. The list really is endless so you need to narrow down what type of things you like doing etc etc - history, cultural, touristy, shopping, chilling, eating, museums, heights, animals, outdoors. There are many tours you can take too which last 3 and half hours which might be a good thing for you so you don't waste time on unnecessary travel. |

To add to everyone's list:
1. Clarke Quay: lots of cool restaurants and trendy bars next to the Singapore River.
2. You definitely have to try chicken rice (you can get that practically everywhere) and chilli crab (it's excellent!! Crab stir fried in a tomato-based sauce...it's not really spicy or anything). East Coast Road area has lots of seafood restaurants.
3. Electronic goods are pretty cheap here (Far East Shopping Center, Funan Shopping center). But it depends where you're from. It's cheap compared to the US and Europe.
4. Vivocity -- probably the largest mall in Singapore. It's also right across from Sentosa so if you want, you can ride the cable car across or take a train. (Cable car ride is really nice though..you get to see the view from above).
The subway train system is super easy to figure out so that's the way to travel! |

Well since this is the first time you are in Singapore, and with limited time you have, I suggest you try to immerse into Singapore's multiracial and multireligious culture as much as possible. Where in the world can you have all these within short distances. Check out the website below to see how to get to these places.
The website also have a shopping mall directory. A find it a comprehensive guide for people who are going to Singapore. Hope it helps! |
