Depends on ur budget...

If u hve a big budget...stay in Orchard...or Marina Square Area (expect to pay abt SGD 200 - SGD 500 per night).

If u do not hve a big budget...then try Little India or China town...these places r filled with budget hotel, boutique hotels n backpackers lodge (expect to pay abt SGD80 - SGD 200 per night).

These areas are pretty accessible 2 shopping districts n malls. In addition, the local public transport (e.g. MRT, Buses, Taxis)isn't 2 hard 2 find n master.

Cheers n hve a nice trip...

Orchard road... lots of shopping centres and hotels.

Singapore is a small island, it is conveniently accessible by the efficient and reliable Mass-Rapid-Transit (MRT)system. Taxi in Singapore is considered one of the cheapest compared to other major cities like New York, London, Tokyo.

If you are tight on budget, suggest you stay in Chinatown area. There is a clean, reasonably priced hotel with modern facilities, Hotel 81. There are plenty of cheap eateries in Chinatown area within 5-10 minutes walking distance to Hotel 81. It's not a problem if you are non-Chinese, there are food courts, hawker centres and coffee shops that sell Indian, Malay, Western meals.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, put on lots of sunscreen on your face, bring an umbrella if you are visiting during end of the year period...

Chinatown/Little India

Orchard Road, obviously. But then again, Singapore is pretty small. And the underground/tram (I forgot which it is) is excellent. So you can stay anywhere and take the UG/tram (or walk) to get to anywhere.

Stay at Geylang to experience the true Singapore culture and shop at Mustafa Shopping Centre or Queensway Shopping Centre or Katong Shopping Centre to get real bargains and a unique shopping experience..

Orchard Road has most of the hotels as it is the shopping belt. Go to the Bencoolen Street area for cheaper hotels or One Emily for a very decent hostel like environment.
It is a very small city so every place is near by. You can get homestays too if you are interested in staying in an apartment.

Orchard Road is a shopping paradise.
Check out Hotel 81 for its chains of hotels in Singapore. They are relatively cheap. Transport is easy to get you anywhere....

Sentosa Island or Orchad Road.

Besides the conventional Orchard Road, Bugis and City Hall areas, one can try shopping in areas like Little India, Chinatown, Holland Village, Queensway, Beach Road and other neighbourhood areas.

These areas offers you the best offers and deals guarantee you could hardly find elsewhere. For the same item in Orchard Road, you will definitely be surprise to find that neighbourhood areas tends to offer at a more competitive pricing.

With state of the art transport system linking different parts of Singapore, travelling from one end of the island to another takes approximately 45 mins to 1 hr depending on where you go. Each stations tends to be located at the town central where you can find the best deals and offer hard to get elsewhere.
