I guess the politicians are the ones who are immature, childish and insensitive . They certainly do not think before they speak. Years ago when I was growing up in a small rural town, things were so much easier and everyone lived harmoniously. we were confortable with each other and different races had no qualms going to a restaurant operated by another race, but fast forward to today, i don't see the same type of assimilation anymore. racial stress is beginning to build up and this sometimes cascades to schools where even the teachers who are supposed to be setting exemplary roles are in fact discriminating against pupils of other races. i find this utterly disappointing.
Well hee hee ha ha, i believe we should go back to basics..
learn to practice tolerance , unity and peace ! |

i agree with rita, just respect others. Don't think that you are superior to them just because your beliefs and your skin colours are different. I live in a very diverse country, and my best friend is from a different background than i am. Be more open-minded, try new things. If you're a Chinese, try participating in some of the Indian's and Malay's traditions and holidays, and vice versa. It's not hard to get along, just see in your mind, that everyone is equal with their own different cultures that make up Malaysia.
For example: if there were no Indians in Malaysia, things would be very different. So just be greatful that you have all these wonderful and unique cultures in your own backyard. |

Look at you ... your surrounding ... are you living in chaos or racist society? For me... i live in harmony. No racial hatred. My boss is Sikh, His wife is Chinese-Christian, clerks are Indians, I'm a Malay-Muslim.
My Sis married to Sabahan, I'm going to marry Johorian ... and i'm a Perakian but now settle in KL. Now who is racist?
My answer is Politicians (BN and PR) ... |

I wish Rita's list would work, as bona fide as they are, but I have reservations.
To achieve this is no doubt a gradual process but if i could fast forward and bring you to the extreme end - I think it is to allow for true freedom and true democracy that all the people of Malaysia is entitled to. Affirmative action based on needs - not race, that will be a start. No restrictions on discussions of racial issues based on good faith, more interracial talks and the likes. Just because we talk about race doesn't mean we are racist.
There are just heaps of things that have to be changed but the first is get rid of race/religion based political groups. They are the roots of evil. |

Interracial marriage just not very common but, having something like that can assure us that some of us not a racist at all.
But, it doesnt mean that we have to marry other from different race so we can call ourselves as not racist. hmm.. probably that lists made by Rita are among the ideas that we should put in our heart and give them chances to grow. |

..cam MJ say...it starts with the man in the mirror....
....do not be imposing.....my religion is for me to practice..only and not others...
....if ever others see my religion and race as non righteous...then it is MY mistake tat i was not able and competent enuf to show it....during my daily activities within the society....
..respect must be earned..so i must werk hard to gain the respect by showing wat my religion is all about if i claim tat my religion teaches all the good things...without demeaning myself and my religion...
..and most of all....
...my rezeki or mmmmm...(someone pls tell me wat tat means in Inglish)....in the hands of ALLAH....so why should i worry....how many people of watever race or religion live among us....
...finally
....maybe Mesia gomen can copy a bit how the Spore gomen does in maintaining racial harmony....see which ones can fit in Mesia..... |

Good morning hehe_haha :)
Before I look into the societal level, I would say that racial harmony would first begin with oneself :) Knowing the importance and need for racial harmony is one battle won... But putting this awareness into action is another issue altogether... Adopting tolerance and better still, understanding, towards others' cultures, religions, customs and traditions, are important elements towards bringing racial harmony to a societal level...
But of course, other factors play an important role too.. Such as the roles and responsibilities of each and every familes, schools and government in affirming these important values..
However none of these would have been achieved without the change of oneself first :)

Rita may have good suggestions but this has been practising since I was born but this observations are normally done by one sided only. Have you ever notice a kenduri that do not serve beef because not all non malay eat them? Also many indians are vegetarian. This is only one example.
My suggestion is treat everyone the same as you want other people to treat you. |
