personally, i prefer bananas--for the potassium mostly. I don't know if my being filipino has anything to do with it.
But as far as I can remember, the apple was a nice treat growing up since it wasn't as common as having bananas (which we grew in our backyard).
Latundans and lacatans (?)! |

When I went to visit my gf's family (near Davao city), we passed tons of banana farms. I never saw so many bananas in my life. They were pretty good. We ate a lot of bananas. Anyway, there are so many bananas there that I'll say that most Filipinos prefer bananas. |

I think more filipinos prefer bananas because first it´s relatively cheaper and second it´s like a national fruit. But honestly, my favorite fruit are apples. |

Bananas and I mean all types of bananas:
Lakatan, latundan, senyorita , saba because its available everyday. Just look at the saba, you can fry it, boil it, stew it and it goes with all kind of desserts from pies to halohalo and turon.
The taste is consistently delicious and sweet.
It has more appeal to local people.
Apples are more considered as a "foreigner" fruit and some are not as crunchier as others. I hate those non-crunchy apples coz its bad to my tongue. |

I prefer bananas before because of its different variety. Some, just peel it then eat it. For some you could bananacue it or make a turon out of it. Some you could put it in your dish as nilagang baboy, ang sarap! ....... Now I like apple. Coz that was the nickname of my girlfriend. She's really sweet!!! So, I would now prefer to eat Apple than a banana...... (I hope she wont discover YAP, or else I'm dead) |

I prefer banana especially using it to make a banana with peanut butter smoothie, banana cake or banana cream pie then 'minatamis na saging' (sweetened banana) and 'turon'. <*-*> |

I remember when I was a kid, my family would visit relatives in the Philippines. At the Duty Free shops (now a casino), my mom would buy crates of apples to give away as well as chocolates. That gave me the impression that apples are considered a special fruit in the Philippines.
So I would say apples. Filipinos have had bananas for centuries.
Actually, Filipinos prefer langka.
