Chinese word for food (饭 = fan4) is also a part of another word (米饭 mi3-fan4) which means "cooked rice", so naturally rice is the main course in China however there are many people who prefer eating noodles and dumplinds.

There are many types of Chinese food. Of course, westernized Chinese food is not the same as Chinese Chinese food.
The general name is Zhongcai. Types of food are given names based on the region from which they come. Sichuancai comes from Sichuan Province and is incredibly hot and spicy (la). In North American, we often talk about Szechuan food. Xiangcai comes from Hunan Province. Cantonese cuisine is referred to as Yuecai.
These are some basic examples. |

Chinese Food is literally called 中餐 ZhongCan. When we ask our friends, "Chinese, Japanese or Italian Food?"
Snacks are refered to as 点心 DianXin (Dim Sum in Catonese)
Roast and Babecues & Seasoned Meat are classified as 烧腊 ShaoLa
Double Boil Soup and Wok Boil Soup are 炖汤 DunTang and 滚烫 GunTang respectively
Stir-Fried Sautee Dishes are 煮炒 ZhuChao
Frankly speaking I'm not sure of what you were asking... But just to score another 2 points from you... |

They would say, in Chinese of course, "Lets have something to eat".
Do YOU just say, "Here's some of that food that we always eat all the time"? No. You say, in example "Lets have pizza" or what not.
We do not call our food American food, and they do not call their food Chinese food. It is just the norm there.
Someone was right, though, when they said that the Chinese we eat is not the same thing that they eat. Some of the dishes have been Westernized-i.e. not served with a chicken head. Some of the dishes have more frying, etc. than they actually would in China. Even though some of their dishes DO include meat from animals we do not eat here, Scorpions, etc.-they are healthier.

It's a funny thing.... actually.
The chinese food we eat like Sesemea Chicken or Fried Pork Rice etc etc.. isnt actually what they eat. They just master it. They eat foods rice baised. They eat alot of sushi too!
But our chinese food- that isn't what they normally eat.
