If he has any hobbies then by him something to help with that.If there is anything that he is short of,ie clothes,shoes,anything then get him some of that.Chocolate,beer,wine,also go down well.You could get him something for the team he supports,if he does support any that is.

Well, a man can't possibly have everything. Since I'm not working, my husband gives me money for housekeeping and other expenses, so I don't feel it's right to spend his money to buy him birthday gifts. Instead, I made him birthday cards, baked him his favourite apple crumble, gave him a money plant, nicely packaged, of course, gave him massages (not that I'm any good, but it's the thoughts, right?), did his chores for him. Actually, it's a lot easier to buy something...
