Every time I keep hearing someone say "western influence", it drives me insane.

Would you rather have Japan still using rickshaws, on dirt roads, living in wooden houses? You know if it wasn't for the "Western Influence" Japan wouldn't have built its first railways. Trains weren't introduce into Japan until after Commodore Perry's second visit. Can you image Japan without trains today??

Japan manages to embrace contemporary culture but keeping charms of old traditions. I don't care if there are McDonalds, or Starbucks everywhere, or their Japanese counterparts. If the Japanese didn't like it, it wouldn't be there. Doesn't mean traditional Japanese foods have gone out, sushi, ramen etc are still popular "Japanese Fast food". These things co-exist together.

Seriously--why do you dislike it so much? It's certainly your right to not like Japan--check out Travel > France or something?

1. The milk has an odd taste and a high fat content, although it's possible to find low-fat milk sometimes.

2. People like Michiko who don't like foreigners.

Note: Michiko, if you don't like the influence of Western culture, don't take part in it. I find it disappointing to see McDonald's on every street, but I've never been to one. If Japanese people don't like Western influence, don't hang out at Starbucks and watch every American film that comes out.

I dislike the following of rules despite going against common sense.

I used to work in Japan, and filled out forms for a bank wire transfer every day. One day the bank (Sakura Ginko, now absorbed by another bank) rejected my form because I used a blue pen instead of a black one. (They pointed out the instruction to use black in a teeny tiny size 6 font on the bottom of the form.)

I had to start from scratch. All for black ink. It's not like I used orange or something wild that I bought at Itoya. Go figure...

Don't worry. Printing technology is Asian influence and the rocket too? The custom of drinking coffee is from Arab? Tea is from Southern China? All the modern technologies and goods are not Western things.
