What do you want to know about Malaysia?
It is a big country. There are three main ethnic groups in Malaysia, plus it used to be a Crown Colony, so there is a diverse culture within the country.
Food is NICE. People are friendly. Human right is poor, but then they are very tough on crime.
Anything more specific? |

I know that it is a great country with multiracial races, religion & culture. You will surely be thrilled by all the different kinds of people and skin colour(color) here. Hey, you don't even need to visit India or China just to see the people any more.
The way I see it, one day Malaysia will rise just as popular as USA right now and be known to everyone in the world. |

Beautiful, colourful, amazing fruit and the people aren't bad either. No country is truly perfect, as different people have their own preferences, but for most people, I'd say Malaysia isn't a bad part of the planet. |

the more appropriate question is - what do you want to know about malaysia? we are here to try to give you an answer.
some of us here just deny that racial sentiment is but a strong dividing factor in this country because it's almost the ONLY thing sentiment the ruling government champions in order to stay in power. and just on the side note, some cant even accept the differences of others. This paragraph is just in response to some answers here which talked about racial disharmony.
ask more specific question, we are more able to help you. |

Quite a bit; probably more than the ordinary Malaysian who cannot get uncensored information. It is a country that openly practises racial discrimination favouring the Bumis (ethnic Malays) over against the other ethnic groups. The Indians are the latest group that has dared to speak out against their treatment. Although corruption is not as widespread as in other Asian countries, it nevertheless goes on through a sophisticated system of patronage among the ruling class. Economically, it has been growing steadily, although not as spectacularly as, say, Singapore. That is mainly because of the pro-Bumi policy which has kept back the economic contribution and drive of the other ethnic groups.
From the tourism point of view (is that why you asked?), it has some interesting places, but mainly in east Malaysia. If you want to see spectacular cave formations, virgin jungles, the highest peak in S.E. Asia (Mt Kinabalu), Orang Utan, tribal people (hurry, as the Penan people are being persecuted to death) good beaches and diving, that is the place to go. Not the west. The beaches of Penang, Langkawi and Pulau Pangkor are poor by comparison.
Malaya, as a whole, was never a Crown colony. Only the 2 states of Penang and Malacca (Borneo was a special case, being ruled initially by a adventurer called Raja Brooke and later a British protectorate) were Crown colonies. The rest were ruled by Britain through their sultans who are hereditary rulers, unelected and undemocratic, but wielding not inconsiderable power through patronage (dishing out datos, titles, etc.) and the class system. Favoured by the British because it reflects English society.
Hmmm... you can see the bumis don't like the objective truth told about their country. Do check it out for yourself. Don't be taken in by the glossy touristy sites though. Racial discrimination is so ingrained now that some Malaysians think it's the natural state of things, until they go to another country. They even have banks for only the Bumis! If that's not segregation, what is? |
