I think it means when someone is looking at a far place is not really looking at something but just thinking, daydreaming or in deep thoughts. (- -,)

PC
Looking far but not looking at anything,
which can also mean:
blank stare,
spaced out,
day dreaming,
glazed look

actually, the phrase is "malayo ang tingin, wala naman tinatanaw", as in the song. It describes somebody who seems so deep in thought as to be seen gazing into the distance but looking at nothing in particular.

reijene
if we are to look for the obvious, it's a person who's staring into nothingness...

if we were to dig deeper, it's an ambtious person without a future.

of course, you'd have to consider the situation at hand, is the speaker talking to a person who's just staring at nothing, or is the person criticizing the person he/she knows... then you decide.

"Malayong" means "further" "tumungin" mean "look" wala means nothing and "tiningnan" means "to look at" but you have to say it this way "looking further but, not looking for anything"
