What do you think about having a bridge that connects Malaysia to Indonesia?

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/11/16/business/20071116145416&sec=business

I think that would be a great idea, but I do wonder what the toll would be like... anyway, what do you think of this article?

Pak Lah did not even have the stomach to continue the new scenic bridge to Singapore, let alone to Indonesia. What's the point anyway. Building bridges across the sea is a hazard to the marine eco-system and a hazard to taxpayers pockets.

NO!!
Malaysia had taken islands even Indonesian song without manners.
Having that bridge will only let Malaysia rob anything from Indonesia.
Not forget the 'pasukan rela' who act like devil :p

I think it will be ugly to see a bridge that long on the straights of Malacca. Is the government really gonna pay so much for a long bridge? 37km is possible to build though, there are bridges around the world more than 30km in length.

I don't know. If it's best for the country, then they should do it. I have a strong feeling it's not gonna be built.

azim_cymo
lo... haha!!!!! it will be soooooooo expensive...

how will ships go through??

toll maybe around 100 ringgit

Not necessary at all. If they insist, then to all Melaka people, get ready to have the same situation like us in Sabah (if you get what i mean).

I will be the first terrorist to blow-up the bridge.

Pandeka
will the bridge gives benefit to the countries...? I dont think so.
Dumai is more like a small town near pekanbaru.
it will gives benefits to illegal logging companies to smuggling woods from sumatra.
bad idea.... bad idea....

That would be great for the following reasons:

1. More Indonesians will be able to enter Malaysia (legally) and therefore Malaysians from all walks of life will benefit.
2. Some people (some people, dont know who they are) will be able to become rich from the multi-billion (or trillion?) dollar project.
3.Malaysians will be proud to claim "we have the longest bridge in the world" no matter who (contractors, engineers) actually build it.
4. Malaysian can easily travel to Indonesia - "there is more life on the other side of the bridge"
5.More toursts will be coming to Malaysia, and then cross the bridge to Indonesia.
