What do you think about south korea?

Hello I'm Korean and I became curious about general view of foreigners. What comes to mind when you hear 'South Korea'? Positive, negative, I don't care, just give me your answers. Thank you.

Beautiful women (no, I don't have a Korean fetish)

Horrible drivers, they seem suicidal at times.

Excellent work ethic (minus the dunken "hwei shiks" some coworkers have, I've heard that it's lead to some serious brawls)

Excellent mass transportation system, affordable. (however in the big cities, packed and ridiculous at times)

Traffic is horrible.

Men here are too competitive, and super jealous of foreign men with K/girls. (don't slam me for saying it, if you do that means you are one of them)

Cost of rent/buying apartments is horrible. Not affordable for most.

The suicide rate here is out of control. I read last week 53 people only in Busan commited suicide already this year.

People give up to easily.

Kids here are spoiled too much, most of them have little knowledge of the real traditions here. They sit around playing killing games, and racing games at local pcrooms.

Everybody needs to finish uni or they'll get almost no chance at a decent job, and they are looked down upon.

Fashion is ok.

Food is great.

Pay for foreign English teachers is great.

Nobody says sorry or excuse me when bumping into someone, or cutting them in line.

Too many bankruptcies, and the stock market is falling.

The exchange rate against the dollar is horrible. $1 is 1,560 KW today.

Cultural activities are great.

Traditions are being lost. Westernization has taken over in the big cities. (including racism against westerners, for those who choose not to accept the westernization process)

International marriage was 11% of all marriages last year.

chongeeeen :)
I'm Korean too.
When I hear South Korea, I think of how every time I introduce myself to someone, they ask:

"Wait. North Korea or South Korea?"

Honestly, are people that politically unaware?

I love Korea! even though i live in england. im planning on moving over there soon ^^
yeah i think the education system is abit strict compared to places like England, where a D grade is still a pass.
But yeah korea is great ^^
plus theres the great band super junior haha ^^
i have a few korean friends, and they don't complain about anything in Korea, i guess if you have grown up there, you are use to it ^^

For a foreigner I think it's a good place to live and work.

edit: Korean people are some of the most racist people in the world (see nice one). I've seen advertisements for foreign faculty members that stated only White foreigners should apply.
Let's not sugarcoat the truth gyopos and people who have never even lived in Korea. I've been here long enough to know.

I love South Korea! When I was an undergraduate I studied abroad there on a short-term program. I only learned some basic greetings and phrases, but the people in Korea were so nice and I had such a good time there thanks to them. After studying abroad, I began helping Koreans who studied abroad at my US university on short-term and long-term programs. Helping these international students was probably the most enjoyable thing I did in college and thanks to all these people I think I have a good understanding of Korean culture and hope they understand American culture better.

I'm living and working in Japan now as an English teacher but think about South Korea a lot and might try to get a job at a university there. I end up comparing Korea to Japan a lot and most of the time I think Korea is better - a complete reversal from what I thought back in high school. This goes to show that one person can really make the difference as to what a foreigner thinks about their country.

As far as Korean society goes, I think people are under a lot of pressure, especially when trying to get into the best universities or getting the best jobs. (Japan too, but I don't think it's as bad) In Korea my host family was always busy - the kids were in cram school after school, the father worked long hours in a hospital, and the mother was busy helping the girls and making sure the household functioned. I think people there are still happy, and if anything, there are still many ways for people to enjoy themselves, such as watching K-dramas, eating delicious food, and going to Lotte World.

God I miss Korea! I'm planning to take a week off sometime this fall and visit. Can't wait to come back!

ILoveYoo-chun♥
ive never been there =[

however I always think of the music and dramas (:
and i'd love to go to Seoul =D

Nice one nice one(Name)! Anyway I'm Korean too, so when "I" think about my mother country I think of it as the best country in the World! (Every person should think that their mother country is the best country)

PS. There is little racism to "White" Peeps.
PP. Unfortunately, a lot of Koreans don't like foreign workers. :(

Im Korean :)
and i love korea, however sometimes i feel that there's too much pressure over all in korea especially in education. INCLUDING THE PARENTS! an A- is a Korean fail. Im trying to get all A's. I have it easier than most Korean people, because Im living abroad and all the korean kids here are smart, getting perfect GPAs and stuff. Also the Korean moms here in our school compare their kids with other korean kids, and they're like "omg, I heard that kid is smart, and they go up and talk to their mom. Its as if Korean kids are accessories to their parents. That angers me the most. Sometimes, I wish I wasnt Korean because of that.
and I HATE how people ask you, are you north or south korean? Honestly how stupid can people get? Dont they know that North Korea is a communist country?
I wish Korea would stop putting so much pressure on kids, I mean seriously its not like you are gonna be a hobo if you get a 3.7 GPA. ?

When I hear Korea, I think positive. The food, clothes, people, technology, K-Pop and dramas all come to my mind first. Seeing and hearing about good things about South Korea makes me feel like a proud Korean.

Im korean- american and what i think about south korea is:
Nice people
Good things you can get
Less racism

Not many korean people are racist..... there mostly christian/buddist so yeahhhhh (:

I'm a foreigner.
What comes to my mind after i hear "south Korea" : dramas, movies, pop songs, jeju island, stylish hair, almost perfect skin, amazing history and culture, conservative society, nice language

hpdog259962
Positive.

I have been studying the Korean History, Culture, and language now since June. It is really interesting. I know I had no idea about all of those before then. I have been telling a lot of my friends about the history, culture, etc... and they are very interested in it.

Again,
Positive it is!
