This is among the very few interesting questions i have read in YA (I am not licking your boot)... Can I have it? am thinking of using it as a bumper sticker or something :)

This is one of those typical proverbs designed to make you think. The answer is yes of course. If I give a prosthetic limb to someone who has no leg I have given something that I do not need to someone who really needs it. Truth is that is exactly how charity works. The same can be said for clothing to the Salvation Army or that annoying loose change in your pocket that you give to a homeless person. Charity is still charity. |

Of course. Some people's trash is another person's treasure. Especially if the receiver appreciates the item you've given them. |

Uh... yes. You still gave something even though you din't like it. Does giving mean that you have to give something you like? That's stupid. |

Hi dude,
This statement really makes some sense..It doesnt mean that you have not given anything at all..
remember if you have given something to someone which you feel that it is not important for you, then it is good and may be that thing might be useful to the other person whom you gave...
So dont get tensed and waste your energy thinking about it..
Is that ok??
Be cool...
You have done a great work if you have ever anything to someone.. |

yes, only if it is usable to the person you give it to

what you've given is your time and effort - not something of any other value - unless you would've sold it vs giving it hadn't the person you gave it to.... |

Cool question... Well, if you believe that there is absolutely no unselfish deed (i.e. every deed is selfish), then something you don't want gives you joy when you give it to someone else, as long as he/she likes it more than you did... |
|

Piggie not a regular anymore! :(

Well, if you gave the gift THINKING that they would like to own it, the you have given them something, if you KNOWINGLY gave them something that they did not want, then you have not given anything at all, except hatred and malice.
Also is the: ...thing that YOU don't...
that doesn't make sense, is it THEY not YOU? |

Answers No. And its true,..you were only trying to get rid of it, thats why you gave it away. Then again, one mans trash is another mans treasure...yeah...Im not sure if i make any sense at this point....... |

well if the person really wanted what you gave them and it helped them out in some way then yes. |

Hey, now that's something to think about! |

In that context, no. You haven't given anyone anything at all. However, if the thing that you gave is much appreciated by the person, it would change the whole idea of the statement I think.
Edit: In that case, my answer's no. but then again, I have given something to someone whether I wanted it or not, so ...my answer's YES. |

if it is a gift then problably not. but people find the starngest things to be treasures. what you may not find special someone else will. but if it is a gift you want ti to mean somethign but if you gave something that ment nothing to you it really is nothing |

If it is something that the recipient wanted, then yes.
It is still a gift that you have given.
If they don't want it either, then it is trash and they are the trash collector.
Until they find someone that wants it and give it to them.
Then it is a gift. |

It's still giving however you put it. I believe humans are hedonistic in nature. How about the statements "it's not selfish to ask for more" or "it's OK to be selfish sometimes" :) But yeah, I get the statement............though I don't totally agree with it. I mean, if alot of people felt bad about this statement and really took it to heart, they may stop donating their clothes to the poor...well that is not good :/ |
