It surely depends what you mean by 'best'. There are a lot of factors involved (cost, shopping, nightlife, local people, transport, natural setting, pollution levels, 'vibe' etc etc)... But I suppose if we're talking about just the overall feel of the city then Hong Kong would win for me. I've lived in a number of the cities mentioned, and for me, the atmosphere about the place is just better than any other city I know. It kind of reminds me of New York in a way, but just far cooler and more friendly. Bangkok would came second, and Manilla a very distant last. Never been to Tokyo so I can't comment on that.

Gotta disagree with the people who prefer Singapore over HK. For me, Singapore is Hong Kong without the vibrancy which makes Hong Kong special. It may be clean, but it's boring as hell! Each to their own I guess :)

if you like hong kong, you'll like singapore more, it's alot like hong kong only better... shanghai sucks, tokyo is ok, bangkok and KL are very similar too, however bangkok has alot more place to go and more fun! never been to manila though

anyway, for me, singapore and hongkong are only places for shopping, i would say bangkok is the "best" city in asia

The asker's got it right: Hong Kong fo sho for their skylines, and neon lights. you get more for the buck as well. you can't top this place for shopping.

Others are Shanghai, Bangkok, Seoul, and Cebu Islands of the Phillipines.

and Taipei's really nice as well, in the outbacks.

Other places good are Nepal(foothills of himalayas). need to check out those places.

Since I live in the Philippines, you would probably understand if I say that I am partial to Manila. It's a very "adventurous" city, where you can find a very artful mix of not only different people, but also varying cultures. Going to Manila is equivalent to going to many others all in one, because here, you can find Chinese, Japanese, Korean and even Western cultures as you look around. We are basically the world's melting pot of cultures, and you will probably love the hospitality of the people. And if you want a nice skyline, well, we have it here, too.

Aside from Manila, I would also recommend Tokyo. It is very clean, very organized, plus if you love anime, you're bound to feel right at home there. Plus the Japanese are generally very interesting people, you are bound to learn a lot from their incredibly rich culture.

And Hongkong is also a sure bet. Tons of bargain buys, beautiful people, and very clean surroundings.

But whatever nation you decide to visit, you are sure to enjoy. Asia is a very beautiful continent. Bon voyage!

Singapore and Tokyo are my top 2. They are both clean, have good economies, have diverse populations (Singapore is a little more diverse), have nice people and good food.

I lived in Japan and traveled to Singapore and many other places.

Hong Kong for the skyline, much like Kuala Lumpur's Petronas. Tokyo for the Sushi. And Manila for the miniature jeeps. They make good "pasalubongs". :)

Yup, i would say Hong Kong is the best for it's skyline. but if I had to choose, I would say KL, not because I live in there but I just love the night life and our culture and food. and also keep in mind that only in Malaysia where one can find 24 hours mamak stalls; locals favorite hangout spot after clubbing and for those sleepless nights, for a glass of hot choclate or even freshly brewed coffee or tea. Not forgetting what KL is known for; shopping. Malaysia is also known for three major races and many other minors thus giving it array of cultures, all of which is proudly shown every where from daily clothing to our famous foods which i am really thankfully for. One does not have to worry about which religion he or she belongs to, because as a multi-racial country, we have almost all types of buildings of worship from mosque to churches and temples to shrines.

Hongkong, best skyline and best night view. Ppl are very real and honest to the point you find its rude..rather than being superficial and "kiasu" (afraid of losing)..Good and tasty food. Best of all I like Hongkonger's attitude, never beg from the government and a bunch of hard workers!

I am divided between Tokyo and Bangkok.. I know Tokyo very very well while I only visited BKK a couple of times but i see the potential in BKK to be "better" than Tokyo in many ways.. the only thing missing is xmas under the snow that in Tokyo is just plain awesome.

I'm Singaporean, so Singapore for me, also because I still think Singapore's food is nice. And it's safe and clean etc etc.

But, I like to go HK to shop, only disadvantage HK have is their air quality. But their things are cheap. Their transport is also as efficient as Singapore.

I don't club, so I don't know which city is best for that, but since everyone says Bangkok is good for clubbing, I'll go with that. But I would go to Bangkok for the Buddhist temples (I am buddhist).

Shanghai is actually a beautiful city too. And it's cheap to get around. Intend to go there to get my wedding photos done, because of the different types of buildings they have. You'll be amazed how good the quality is.

I think KL is kinda dangerous. Only because most of my friends who went there have been robbed or pickpocketed. Only time I go KL is when I take Malaysia Airlines (their service is pretty good too) and do a transit.

Never been to Manila, and haven't heard much except their beaches are nice.

I actually like Osaka and Kyoto more than Tokyo, because they have very beautiful buildings and temples. And Kyoto still have a minority of practising Geishas. They are more "japanese" than Tokyo.

I like Korea because of how those dramas depicted it to be. They always manage to find some really beautiful place to do their shooting.

So I guess, depends on what you are looking for. Every city have their pros and cons.

Tokyo very alike New York, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore best vacation to visit. Shanghai is business city. So i can mention all ASIA CITY is the best.

For me, it's Kyoto, Japan. It is a modern city with ancient traditions and buildings still in preserved, both co-exist with harmony.

If I have to rank your list ....

Tokyo and Singapore on the top two.

Hong Kong, Manila and Bangkok in the middle pack.

Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur on the bottom two.

Tokyo is a futuristic city. People are polite. Singapore is a small city. Everything is almost in your arm's reach.

Hong Kong is shopping destination. Manila's people are hospitable. Beaches are beautiful. Bangkok is kinda cheap.

In both Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur, there is no freedom of speech. Shanghai is so polluted while I was robbed in Kuala Lumpur.
