bad urban planning, bad drivers and lack of discipline.
not to mention the lack of advanced notice when street's are suddenly blocked with pink fences and u-turn slots that practically covers an entire lane. |

lack of discipline... improper road ethics... poor installation of road signs... Metro Manila's Displaced Alligators... poor traffic engineering design... too much sidewalk/ambulant vendors... also, too many people travelling at the same time.... |

there are 5 major reason why traffic is such a huge problem in the philippines esp. in metro manila.
these are, lack of the following:
1. infrastructure (deplorable condition of roads)
2. discipline (arrogance on the road, corruption in the enforcement of traffic rules and laws)
3. political will (politician can't get rid of the illegal vending and squatting of some part of the streets. and you knew why)
4. education and proper training of motorists and traffic enforcers (you can get your near-original driver's license from any LTO offices with the assistance of unscrupulous and enterprising LTO personnel or his/ her cohorts without passing the examinations if you pay "under the table" money. and you can also find traffic deputies and enforcers, deployed on the road, who doesn't even know the traffic rules - some doesn't even know how to drive) |

Lack of discipline for drivers and too many colorum jeeps and buses. No proper road maintenance, lack of traffic enforcer and drivers ignorant of traffic rules...:) |

Dare I say this, the problem is that there are too many motor vehicles on the roads.
Traffic laws that are not enforced.
Jeepneys stopping everywhere and anywhere.
Tricycles on busy roads.
Lack of a good railway system. |

Discipline, or lack of it, is number one. Second, I think is the poor urban planning then and now. |

lol.....I remember the jeepneys from my days in the Navy. Had a blast on mag-sisi blvd at roofadoras bar. Used to get a massage to take the edge off. Take me down to Olongopo City!!!!!!! The traffic was terrible but it is a busy place. For as poor of a country it is supposed to be I can't believe all the traffic. I would say the money is being spent else where and the people can't do anything about it. |

The darned U-turn slots!!!!! There would be so much less traffic if everybody was not forced to go out of their way to find a U-turn slot. In addition, the U-turn slots slow traffic because everybody decreases their speed to go into the U-turn slot and then starts off at a slower speed on the other side. The U-turn slots are the bane of my driving existence. |
