We can not reap what we did not
sow. Our preparation and training pales in comparison with other nations. We just relied on our natural talents and hoped for a medal. By doing this, we are doomed. Expect more devastating defeats in sports in the future.
We should change our attitude and put more emphasis on hard work. Then maybe, in the 2016 Olympics, we might just be able to bring home a medal or two. |

Lack of moral support and training.
Even if we didn't have any medals, I am proud of the 15 athletes who represented our country. Despite of being outnumbered, they tried their very best, and I congratulate them for that. They played fairly. They never cheated.
It takes a lot of courage to compete in the Olympics. Knowing that if they win they'll be heroes & if they LOSE their countrymen will be ashame of them. Instead of degrading them, we should congratulate them and welcome them, the same way we would welcome them if they had won. |

winning or losing shouldn't be the issue, its how one plays the game, many countries spend untold amounts of money to insure victory,I think filipinos should be very proud of their country men for participating knowing that they are fighting under these conditions, besides if manny had been allowed to participate the whole world would have taken notice, himself alone is cause for filipino pride,is it not so! |

Hello all. Just one more thing you might like to hear. I'm now in a poorer area of the USA, in the mountains, where there's hardly any big business around or many facilities for playing sports. But there are young people here going to national competitions in at least two sports (shooting and archery) and bringing in medals, also qualifying for the national teams. You know what, they have good coaches who give them confidence and they train on their free time. I believe Filipinos could go for those two sports also... like over here, the Boy Scouts learn this very young. |

the funds that were supposed to be used for the athletes, has been spent for others... ask the Government about it... |

At first I was wondering if the Philippines even had a team because I didn't see any competitors. Then I went on the page and found that there actually was a team, but only 15 members or so. I even looked for a basketball team but there was none. I know basketball is a very big sport in the Philippines...and there are many millions of people to chose from...why was there not even one mens team or womens team? Then I looked and saw only one guy for boxing...WTF? This is where Manny Pacquiao comes from? I would have thought you'd have several boxers in all the categories. Then you see the cheating of the chinese with the women's gymnastics (he kexin) and I was thinking that there should be no need to cheat with a filipina team, there are women in the Philippines that are smaller and could probably win on the uneven bars, better than the chinese 14yr old...if they prepared and practiced and trained and practiced some more.
I could only conclude that the Olympics was not a priority for the Philippine government or people. You can blame it partially on funding and money, but not all...look at even Thailand and Cuba and Togo can win medals without multinational corporate backing. I admire the fact that the athletes went there to compete, but it seems they were totally unprepared for the type of intense competition that is there. I would say that the Philippines 'could' win medals, the talent is there, if there was more self-discipline taught, more hard work in training...then I'm sure the Philippines could excel in several sports and win some medals. |

It's so obvious their trainers and coaches are to blame. Also whomever is funding their training might be also to blame, not enough money to train properly. Your pissed off about not getting medal. I'm pissed off on why did the Philippines have only a handful of Olympians. The Philippines is an island near the ocean right. Well where was our swimming team? I live in the U.S. and keep hearing things on the Filipino TV that the Philippine basketball team is good, well where were they? ETC.... |

oh dude..breaking all the walls in your room won't help. c'mon try to fix it.
the economy of a certain country reflects their output. normally, if you have noticed those who bags most of the medals are from first world countries..it is because they have all the means, the access to modern facilities that are used in the olympics, the support of the government and its people (financial and moral support are very vital). compared to a third world country like ours who have even bigger problems than the olympics, we really should not expect much from it.
what our athletes are showing right now are their full capabilities. you should even be glad that inspite of all the lack - we still have athletes who made it ot the olympics. don't you think? :) |

i just read a newspaper that the committee was really admitting the thing happened to our athletes as their fault...they said that they have all the fund but they did not used it properly...but actually we have 2 gold medals and 2 bronze in Wushu...but this is a trial sports which will be an official sports event in the next olympics.... |

It's mostly about lack of funding, i.e. money.
World class trainers and coaches, state-of-the-art equipment, full-time training, athlete's stipend, proper nutrition, recruiting potential winners, etc. . . . all that needs money, lots and lots of it. The countries in top standings spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year, if not billions, for their athletes.
Their athletes train full time. They have an nice allowance, while our athletes probably still have to work part-time to make ends meet.
We should be realistic with our expectations. For example, I've seen our divers do their best dives. I wasn't impressed. I've seen winners from the past Olympics. And even the fourth and fifth placers were a lot more amazing than ours.
I think our country is (or at least you are) in denial. We know that our athletes are not the best. We know why they're not the best. And yet we get frustrated if they don't bring home a medal. Let's be real.
As for you, maybe you can channel the anger that made you break your wall into taek won do, and then try out for the next Olympics. It will make you realize how hard it is to win. |

Inadequate training facilities. Some of those athletes (who medaled)coming from poor countries like the Philippines actually trained in the USA. |

we should have won more than a gold, if all other athletes were killed
--thus, we need MILF to get a gold...instead of killing our fellow Filipinos, MILF shall instead kill those corrupt chinese and other good athletes :) so that if the MILF get killed at least Ninoy was right in saying that "Filipino is worth dying for". |

Quite right! Quite Right!
We have the blood of Sparta running in our veins! No warrior should come home if he loses the battle!
And those responsible should also suffer the same fate! Behead them all, I say!!! Or, drop them in the deepn ravine where the hungry beasts are, to be devoured alive!!!
Next time, we should send in the cream of the crop, our own Immortals! Those with the blood of the Gorgons on them, wriggling snakes and all in their heads! And also, our very own Titans, cylops, and what not! So that in the javelin throw, when they release, it will be always with the sounds of thunder and when they strike the earth back, the javelins come out at the other side of the planet, and up the a.s.s.e.s. of the Olympic committeee!!!
Long live the Astigs! |
