When I think of China I think of the wide range of contrasts.
The scenery ranging from the dry dessert like regions of Xinjiang to the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, the muti-coloured pools of Jiuzhaigou, the many wooded covered mountains and the vast lakes with snowcapped valleys.
I think about the many styles and cultures from cities filled with skyscapes and flashing lights filled with sharp suited business men and Chinese party girls to beggars sleeping on its streets. The style of rural areas with cultural styled homes of the Tibetan, Bai and Mosuo people live hundreds of Kms away from people.
The places there you can speak Mandarin and no one can understand you.
I think of the buildings of the palaces, the temples, the great wall to modern condos and posh hotels. From Peking duck, spicy hotpot, cripsy fried sweet potato to Chinese egg breakfast and McDonalds.
As much as I like living in China I'm happy that I wasn't born Chinese.... |

Hmmmm, are these your classmates answering your question? How would they respond if you asked "What do you think of the United States?"
I am an American living in China with my Chinese-American husband and my two children. We live in a lesser developed part of the country, the northwest. It's not like Beijing or Shanghai with tons of tall buildings and lots of tourists, but is more every-day life. People here do NOT all look alike as every person is an individual. Just because most people in China have black hair doesn't mean they don't have distinguishing features.
People in China have the same concerns as people in other countries. They worry about having enough to support their children and their parents. They worry about the cost of healthcare. They want to improve their lives and try to do so through making money. There are extremely hard-working people, just as there are extremely lazy people.
In other words, you can't say a nation of 1.3 billion people fits a stereotype.
The country itself has some extremely developed areas (as seen during the Olympics), but also has some extremely impoverished areas. There are still villages in mountains that have no roads running to them, have no running water, no electricity and no landline phone service.
The majority of the nation's wealth is located on the eastern seaboard and you can visibly see the decrease in wealth as you move away from the east.
The country is rich in history and culture, yet clings tightly to tradition. There is a great deal of respect for senior citizens and education is something highly desired and sought after. Children are prized and cherished, especially boys, as they are the future and are parents "retirement plan." There is no national retirement plan nor a national social security plan so families are expected to care for each other throughout their lives.
There are more people studying English in China than there are native speakers of English in the United States!
I could go on and on . . . but this is probably more than you wanted to know anyway.
Good luck! |

China has its own world. I lived in China for 3 years and I think China is the most hardworking country at the moment. They made the infra with the hard work. People have good marketing skills. Most people love money, they dont believe in GOD they believe in work. Friendly people. All in all they are going to be the developed nation soon. |
