I would normally say that about a group or another that they are like everyone else in the world, but I will make an exception for China and say that they are not: they are the friendliest and most welcoming people as a group that I have ever encountered in all my travels. I've traveled to China since 1984 and always returned, not to see the temples and sights (which are beautiful by the way) but for the people I met and will meet. All the people I met without exception (OK, once I had some problems with an middle-aged bureaucrat at the visa office, I think she was missing some excitement in her life...) were the most wonderful people. Due to several decades of communism, they are even more curious about the western world than others and while being usually more reserved and shy than us, they are eager and hungry to meet westerners, to practice their English, etc. They may have some habits that are culturally and socially different than ours, but it is just a matter of superficial difference.

I really like the Chinese ppl. I know quite a few and without exception they r all great. I have never visited the country but i believe there is good and bad in any country, culture etc.

The ones I met in Hong Kong and China will do anything to avoid directly saying "no" to you. Say you propose to go eat at a certain restuarant, and they don't want to go. They may say, "this is not a good time", or "how about we go to that one", or "maybe we should wait another hour to eat" ect. They view saying "no" to a guest as rude. So if you find them saying things to you of this nature don't counter them as arguments, ie "no, this is a good time" or "but we don't like that one" or, "but it will be crowded in an hour" but rather take them as a "no". The month I spent in China was probably the happiest of my life. I highly recomend it.

They are like everyone else!

The only Chinese I know are two different local restaurant owners. Very polite, extremely efficient people who seem like they would never, ever give up. Wish I had one-tenth of that resilience and stubborness (oh, wait, I have the stubborness, lol).

they treat foreigner even better than locals -

Chinese are very friendly and warm hearted

if u r polite to them - they will pay 10 times back to you

u'd better learn some basic Chinese - like Nihao! then your trip will be more interesting

enjoy!

Been there twice, enjoyed all aspects, except the weather (too hot/humid in summer, very cold in winter). The young speak English, and may want to talk to you, but language can be a problem. If you want to go somewhere in a taxi, get your hotel to write the address in Mandarin, to show to the driver, also the name of your hotel! They are curious, sometimes apprehensive of westerners, and may stare at you, but just smile, or nod, and say "nee how" (hello!), and they usually respond. Crime is not rife, but don't flash your money/valuables. Enjoy the culture!........

Chinese people are very friendly, and very helpful.
They love to have guests, and to take good care of them.
They act spontaneously, so don't expect any long term plans to stay fixed.
They can arrange a party in ten minutes, and cancel one in five!
They are extremely hard working, like 12 hours per day, seven days per week, with maybe 5 days a year off.
Their table manners often leave a little to be desired.
