well,i have a filipina sis in law (my family is multi national)..
although im not very close to her, but she strucks me as a gentle, soft spoken, beautiful filipina..
what do you mean you had to struggle in adjusting to your malay colleagues? i suppose, there should be no problem language wise..as most malaysian can speak english?
btw,good luck!
ADD : deathstar,i think nationality is not the root cause of their attitude towards you..
they might be jealous of your fast rising position at work?
or did you do something wrong ?
i used to have the same problem with you at work..due to jealousy, they purposely ignored me and made my working life feel like hell..
but heck it..as long as i do my job well, i can't be bothered with their attitude.. |

try finding other lone ranger around you because not all nurses like to hang around to each other.
It is not because of your nationality,
perhaps there were to comfortable with each other and they didn't realize you were left behind.
I personally having problem with my friend who share same nationality, race and religion.
They often ignore me for no obvious reason.
Don't worry, you just carry on doing what you do best,
get someone here to be your friend while you off duty. |

had three pilipino friends. all were nice. lost contact already.
have a pilipino aunt, married to my uncle. shes one of the nicest aunt thats for sure.
but, hows your relationship with your malay colleagues now? and there must be some reasons that you might think are the causes, why dont you share it, and probably we would be of a better help. and what do you mean you had to struggle. your colleagues acted cold towards you? or? hehe.
all your colleagues are malays? you're a nurse i assume? and are you the only one who is a pilipino? anything you think that might have made them mad/feel insecure/hurt? be honest here. |

There is nothing to think about them cos it is very much up to individual characters.
Do you only have Malay colleagues? Why not try some others instead since you find that it is a little tough adjusting? Generally, in friendship, you don't have to worry the color of each skin, the religion, etc... If someone opens their heart to you, accept it graceciously.... |

depends which side of malaysia you are at. and of course it differs between individuals. as far as i am concerned, many sabahans have bad impressions about filipinos, and so do it. they (at least the illegally staying in malaysia ones) tend to mess up our streets and become agitated and violent more than necessary.
that said, my dad hires quite a few filipino workers who are really hardworking and worthy of praise. my nanny was a filipino woman and i loved her. her son is working for my dad now and we keep in touch pretty frequently.
that said i am neutral. nationality and race is no bar for me in terms of building a healthy friendship. or workmateship :)
keep your chin up. |

When you mention Filipinos, the first thing that come to my mind is Abu Sayyaff ... sorry but lol .... cuz they made Philipine famous during year 2000 when they kidnapped some tourist from Pulau Sipadan, Sabah ...
I think that is natural ... your Malay colleagues talking in their native tongues and you feel "neglected" or ignored ... try to learn the Malay language then from them (if possible unless you are too proud to do so) and I believe they will be more 'open' to you ... also, what will be the reaction among your colleagues if they are so used to speak in Malay among themselves and suddenly one of them started to speak English to the rest ? Lol ... sure they will belittled him/her ... (talking from experience here) |

Deathstar, I think we should thank Masouk for his first statement. That sure is a generous compliment, do you agree?
ADD: do u follow the saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do?" Maybe they are always painfully aware of your difference because you are not trying to adapt fully? Are you starting to learn their language? It's important I think.
Maybe you wish they could be more like us Filipinos who under such circumstances would go out of our ways to make the foreigner feel welcome and include the person as much as possible in our activities. Well, it could be due to cultural differences, in which case, you just have to accept and not take personally. |

I don't understand the question. It's like saying "what do you think of White people"? I don't think you can group a race of people under one umbrella. You take people on a one on one basis. Some you will like, and some not so much. It sounds like you have personal issues. Treat people as you want to be treated and you can't go wrong. Good luck. |

I can't believe you can ask "What do you think of Filipinos" on Yahoo Answers and you can't ask "Would you rather have a ham and swiss sandwich or turkey BLT".
To tell you the truth, I can't understand a word they say. They are around during the day and disappear at night. That help at all? |

Wonderful, intelligent, smart, hospitable, professional, friendly beautiful, devoted and so much more. And just like any other nationalities, some may also be wily, inconsiderate, aloof, and with other undesirable traits. Maybe you ought to learn more about other peoples and races and know how to distinguish them from each other before you ask such a condescending question. Imagine asking what we think about Filipinos and in the same breath mention that you had to struggle to adjust to your Malay colleague.Filipinos are not the only ones who are considered as part of the Malay race so what's the big deal zeroing in on Filipinos? Definitely, they're not like the Ugly American! |
