I LOVE SINGAPORE...'coz i'm from Singapore...got so much to say abt it...

U can chew gum but juz don't spit it about...and u're not allowed to smuggle it into S'pore 'coz smuggling is a crime! We have lots of laws... but they're not so bad actually. Littering is against the law...but I litter all the time, never really get caught...but if u do get caught, the fine's $500. It's cleaner than many other countries...we have the bestest airport, the Changi Airport. No pets,no food and drink, no smoking,no DURIANS,no flammable gases on buses and trains...also no ball games or cycling in the void decks. AND NO CURSING POLICEMEN!!! NO RACIST COMMENTS(EVEN IN YOUR BLOG OR DIARY)...U COULD SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE IN JAIL FOR THAT!

Food...food's good! We got "Uniquely singapore dishes" like Chilli crab, Roti John, Fish Head Curry...blah blah blah...and u can get any traditional food be it Japanese, Korean. Chinese, Indian, Malay or Western...anything at all!Singaporeans LOVE food...

Weather... it's humid most of the time...rains at the year end and beginning..hot in the middle of the year...and if u visit any parks... DO NOT PICK THE FLOWERS!!!!

Shopping is great..shop everywhere and anywhere so many shopping malls and many 3 for s$10 stuff...I love shopping!

I LIVE in Singapore.

It's safer than most countries,it's clean and green.
The law's pretty strict but you WON'T get a death sentence if you eat chewing gum. It's banned though.

The food is great. There is a great variety. Western, Thai, Malaysian etc. There is even Singapore's unique dishes. Chilli crab(it's great) and roti John(never tried it).

It can rain alot during the monsoon season, but the weather's nice most of the time :)

People usually love their own countries :)So it's not nice to talk bad about other countries because you've never been there or heard negative things about it :)

Ok, those who have no idea should really not mouth off. First off, sale of chewing gum is banned, spitting your gum on the floor will get you fined, but chewing gum itself is not banned. Fiens are clearly stated. If you don't want to pay it just don't break the law. I guess that's true of any country you visit. You won't normally have to worry about corruption/bribery and crime is well controlled.

To answer the question though, weather in Singapore is about the same year round, plus or minus 30 degrees celcius. More rainfall in the year end period (contributing to a slightly lower temperature) but thats about the variation. Really humid too. Is that good weather? Well, that depends on whether you like sunny or not.

Food wise you can get practically anything here. Japanese, indonesian, korean, chinese, steak houses etc etc. Prices range from real cheap (a nice meal can be bought at a local hawker center for S$2-4. You can also get S$101 dollar burgers. Singapore is a small country and one of the most popular local pastimes is food :D

I think it's a nice country to live in and with all other countries, it has its fair share of oddball laws. But the laws does keep the country clean and safe for everyone. Go ahead and take the dog for a walk at 4am without worrying if a gang might jump on you from a dark ally. The whole country is so brightly lit it can be spotted from space.

With the multiple races, cultures, religions and traditions there's a wide range of food to keep everyone happy and since there's people working at all times of the day, there's food available all the time, making it rather convenient.

The weather here is hot and humid most times of the year. If you don't like that then you won't like the weather here. It does have it's rainy seasons and the really hot dry times as well, just not as drastic as the four seasons. Great for getting tans but the beaches aren't that great. With all the reclaimation done, the waters have got murky and the sand isn't as soft as what a natural beach would have.

With tourism as it's main attraction, it does have quite a few tourist spots and the history is something to learn about as well. With the 2nd best zoo in the world and the struggle of gaining independence, there's a whole lot to discover in Singapore.

unless I am mistaken its a real nanny state, even can go to jail for chewing gum! no way would I go there, I bet I wold get the death sentence! lol

You have heard from the Singaporeans. Now from a western perspective. I have been to Singapore numerous times because I worked in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia and made lots of flight connections there. I also spent several wonderful short vacations there with my family. I am a died in the wool country boy from South Texas. However, if I had to pick one large city in the world, and beleive me I have been to my share in Asia, Europe, South America and naturally North America, I would live in Singapore. Clean, friendly people, modern and just plain beautiful.

Good points:
- delicious food
- very clean city state
- efficient and excellent public transport system
- shopping heaven if you are one of those shop-till-you-drop
type

Bad points:
- the people are 'rather' pretentious, sometimes too
brisk and unfriendly, unless they detect that you are
from North America/Europe/Australia/Japan, total change in
attitude.
- relatively expensive compared to other south east asian
countries
- HOT and HUMID

Hi, I am from Singapore so I do get intriqued by your question. Are you planning to visit? Then it is fine to do so. As described, it is a tourist country, catering to the tourist industry. We have parks to visit, shopping malls to run through, and varieties of food to try. It seems to be getting a name as a food galore destination! Night life is quite active too, lasting till about 2-3am, as in most countries. Even as a small country, it will take you a few days to run through the sights.
Weather-wise, there are types, hot or wet. It is in the tropical zone just next to the equator. But most amenities are air-conditioned now. Transport, housing, eating places, shopping malls. So you do not have to worry too much about the heat.
Food wise, it had been called the fusion of east and west. So if you are game, you can try practically food from all over the world, in one small place. just loosen up your belt.
There are misconceptions about Singapore laws. People tend to take it to the extreme and make it all sounds bad. I am sure you have laws which others will find strange or quirky or even oulandish. But bottomline is, the laws had been put in place to safeguard the environment, people, etc. Chewing gum was a problem that got bad that a ban was put in place before major incident can happen. This had saved the country from gum-inflicted problems like sticky roadside, public seats in parks and transport, and vandalism of property. Even possible disruption of the automated transport system. We had foreign visitors whose countries are still battling this gum problem, and hope their own government could implement this ban!
Anyway, this chewing gum ban is being reviewed and is available from pharnacies for dental hygiene. Considerate disposal is the key to avoid gum-related problems.
Let's face it, the laws are there to safeguard the populace, not introduced to disrupt your life. That is why it is safe to go anywhere anytime anyplace.
And if you are travelling, this is the crossroad to your other destinations.
As in any country, there are good points, and there are bad points. I acknowledge this for my own country. But on the whole, I believe there are more good than bad points here.
Do come and see for yourself. Happy travelling.

PS if you are thinking of long term stay, this country was one of the more popular choice for those with family, whose children safety is topmost on their mind.
I had travelled around a bit, so I do know what I am writing. :)

I have already been to Singapore twice. It's wonderful! Extremely friendly people, very interesting mixture of ancient asian and british colonial culture.
It is true though, that they have very high fines for littering etc.
As far as I know, you are now allowed to chew gum in public but don't try and spit it on the street.
And there is also a fine for not flushing the toilet. ;-)
But all those fines have a logic, historical background/reason. A local guide will tell you all about it!

So wether you like shopping (electronics, clothes...) or culture or nature (wonderful parks there) it's the perfect city for a stopover or a short city-trip.

If you need any further infos on places to see, things to do or travel guide recommendations, feel free to email me to tigger_baby7@yahoo.com or sonjab@netcologne.de

I never been to Singapore, but my Boss is a Singaporean. I think they are good people & disciplined. Its cheap to buy electronics gadget. The food, only if you love spicy food, but the weather is fine, tropical weather.

I went to singapore some years ago with a young family - loved it. Around christmas is very hot and humid but the christmas decorations are just fabulous and every store participates. We would often wander around late in the evening and always felt very safe. The zoo and bird park are well worth a visit. We stayed in Little India and I just loved the smells and the bright clothing. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful.

I live in Singapore now, and have stayed in NYC and Jakarta before. Still the best place to me! You can chew gums, but not sell. You get all kinds of foods that could fit any budget. And you get cheap and SAFE taxis! Best of all, they speak English here, as compared to some other Asian countries.
