Majestic landscapes, beautiful shores, rich in natural resources. (though there are damned places)

Corrupt government, greedy self-centered people. (though there are still saintly townspeople)

The philippines has been occupied by three countries, Spain, Japan and USA. Unfortunately Philippines has kept the worst ideas from all three countries. Nice people, but terrible political system

i'll try to be unbiased because i'm a filipino, but based of years of living here....

philippines has different sides like the moon has different faces...

it's true that we have world-class beaches here but the sad thing is, most of it are undeveloped...but if you seek it out, you;ll find heaven in them...

our culture is nice too because we were colonized by the spanish, and americans so we have a perfect blend of eastern and western cultures, in fact, philippines is the most westernized country in ASIA...

so have fun learning our place and culture...good luck!

It's okay as places go...but never changes much.

Easygoing people who often need prodding to get moving. But when they do, which usually happens when they move abroad, they can excel.

Poor service in general.

O.K. for living, but many other places abroad have far better infrastructure and services.

Number of poor increasing due to unchecked and uncontrolled population growth. Catholic church has too much to say and politicians have no guts to do anything about it.

Magnificent beaches and - once you're away from the cities - quite friendly people.

Lots have been said here ... one even asked if people are getting kidnapped for ransom ... but hey ... crime is not a monopoly of the Philippines ... we don't have guntottting students who massacre students and professors ... in the US criminals abound too ... much worst than the Philippines.

Philippines is a great country especially the countryside. Simple yet captivating. The landscape, tho' rustic is majestic. Its best to enjoy the undeveloped beaches ... less pollution more serene. And the people are great. Hospitality is at its best.

it is an amazing country
I went there when i was like 7 8 years ago,
i know it was along time ago but i remember it well
i loved the beaches and this wierd icecream called halohalo
we took a speed boat to this island and stayed there- it was very nice
but when we visited our grandma in cebu i think
i realized the living standards aren't so good,
its all great if you're a tourist and can afford what philippines has to offer like the jypnees and hotels and beaches
but if you live there and aren't lucky enough to get a decent standard of living then i think its not so good
i would blame it all on poor goverment,
if they got a filipino-english politician to go over and apply for president gradually it would get better and more people would find out how wonderful the country really is,
its a very expensive plane flight to the phils but if you can afford it i would reccomend you go

To be from the Philippines? Okay, so Filipinos are known to be hospitable? To be talented? And what else?... And many other good qualities...

But, i just don't get it. I don't know how to explain... about little things like the litters and spittles and cigarette filters and candy wrappers scattered on the streets. You'll surely won't see that thing in some other countries. And how about the rivers and the bays with black waters and floating garbages on it? Is discipline really that expensive? How about the squatters? What about the hold-upppers and snatchers and killers and rapists? And even the prostitutes and callboys? Okay, so it also happen in other countries... but... it's really different here. Is it all because of poverty? And what about the dishonest officials? The corrupt politicians?... I.. just don't know. It's a sad thing to think about. But it's funny. People here are proud to be Filipino, but it seems like everyone around is wanting to leave the country.

Poverty? Corruption? Overpopulation? Unemployment? Illiteracy? Poor education?

Greed?

...and what about global warming? LOL (*sarcastic)

no matter how bad other people say it is,
its the only place i'll ever want to live and die...
they just haven't seen the beauty it possess...
experienced the people, culture and environment...
or if they have, they preferred to dwell on the ugly things...

there's no place like home...
