My children take cereals, coffee or hot chocolate in the morning. Sometimes they take bread (sliced bread or pan de sal, whichever is available), some "palaman" or sausage/hot dogs when they're in a hurry. The same goes for me, too. When we have time, we eat a little heavy breakfast like rice, fried eggs, tocino/longanisa or "paksiw" and fried dried fish. |

Cereals and cereal bars are also consumed in the philippines. I doubt it if it's popular though, but perhaps in the upper brackets of society.
Some people eat lugaw (philippine porridge) or mami (philippine noodle soup) for breakfast. It's faster to eat than the more famous filipino rice breakfasts. I also heard some people eat/drink hot taho for breakfast, as it is convenient to sip from a cup. You can actually consume it while walking to the office. |

umm...what i usually have in the morning for the 'almusal' is coffee and pandesal (bread) or oat meal...but the typical 'almusal' was like what you stated but sometimes a hotdog or corned beef will be a replacement for the longanisa and tocino... |

Yes, the ones you've mentioned are quite popular! Not to mention very good. The combination is called "tapsilog," or tapa, sinangag at itlog. There's also tocilog.
If you are in a hurry, pan de sal and kape would be good, too. Especially if that pan de sal was hot, and filled with butter.
Tsamporado, or sweet chocolate rice porridge with dried fish is also satisfying.
Traditionally, cereals/cereal bars aren't very popular here. However, being exposed to Western culture, you could easily find a box of cereal in any grocery store :-) |

Rice is consider a typical breakfast in the Philippines, in the provinces lots of people don't know what is cereal. Most of the time coffee and bread if you are in a hurry, but yet about 9am they will eat rice and that will be consider almusal. |

Come on people - the "typical" almusal in the Philippines is ... nothing, as in wala dahil sa kahirapan. There are so many poor people in the Philippines that they forgo 'almusal' in the morning - usaully a cup of kape, that's it. No such thing as hotdog, corned beef, tapa or sinangag. Bigas is so expensive - so ano pa ang isasangag sa umaga eh gabi pa lang wala ng kanin. So the "typical" almusal - nothing. |

I like to eat a lot for my breakfast and light during dinner. Usually, I'd have some pandesal with some cheese or peanut butter and then rice with egg, bacon or sausage. But if get to hurry, some bread with cheese will do and coffee! Tapa, longanisa and tocino are quite popular... A substitute for bacon. Some popular food during breakfast are puto, sikwate, danggit, hotdog, fried chicken and corned beef. Cereals are not really that popular though.. But i love Nesvita. |
