I dunno, maybe the islands and beaches and diving in the south, the lovely mountain scenery and remote jungles of the north, the variety of cultures, good food, nice people? There are quite a few single women who enjoy the same, and believe it or not, couples and families. And this constitutes the great majority of people who visit Thailand for a holiday.

Why the big obsession with the minority of single men who travel to Thailand because of the prospect of Thai women and sex?

As for me, I am an expat who was transferred to Thailand by my company and I have worked in Bangkok for about 11 years now. I have been married to a physician for seven of those years, and yes, she is Thai. To this day, even recently at an otherwise pleasant Sunday morning coffee at the Oriental riverside cafe, we receive less than respectful stares that were obviously sizing me up as a "sexpat" and she as some sort of gold digger. I must admit that most of this comes from western female tourists. Perhaps I should post a question here: why is there this ignorant prejudice and sterotyping regarding western men and Thai women?

Beautiful land & beautiful women. Nuff said. But, as some other's here have said. Some men are going there for the wrong reasons. But not all Thai women are prostitutes. That should be made clear.

Have been there with the family of 4 several times. We all had a good time. Great get away from the rat race here in the states, and to come together as a family. The two boys used the sky train to get around by themselves many times in BKK, went to the River Kiwa, Had a blast. Great Hospital, and had two minor operations there for under $800 that was quoted over $10k here in the states.

Seems a lot of people put men down for going to Asia, but wonder how many of those bad mouthers have ever been there. The people of the whole nation seem really nice, All Asian countries treated me like a king, cept for Japan.

I married a woman from Manila 19 years ago and she is a great person. Would I want to compare her to women in the West?? Nope, will be kind.

Sure there is sex there, Men go for it, Why not? I assume it gets old after a while. A trip to Thailand is a dream come true to so many, that those that have never lived it have no basis to mount an opinoin. Love will often follow the trip, and many will marry and live happy, as some on this board. How many people can take a trip around the world, Meet beautiful women, and country, fall in love and get married at 50+??

Who in the world would dream of going into a bar in the West and find anything beautiful that would even look in their direction, outside of the waitress?? LOL

I feel alive when I go there, and watch the people and walk in the Malls with half mil other shoppers.

For those that put down the question as nasty, I feel for you because you have never felt the Joy of Thailand and Asia..Shame on you for putting down that old ugly guy, that enjoys his trip there, and maybe, just maybe had the best time of his life.

Maybe foreign women tourists who complain about Thai ladies with foreign men are jealous! Thai women when they are 30 look like teenagers! Many foreign women when they are 30 years old look old like they are 50!

I first visited Thailand about 1980. After a month long trip from Singapore to Pattaya.
I was sitting in an open air bar, when a girl sat next to me. I sensed that she was after money,and since I was at the end of my holiday by then, I was getting short of money.
I told the girl, sorry I don't have much money,and maybe she should go else where. She said "No talk money" ,, Later, since she wasn't going any where. I asked her how much ?
She said with a dissaproving look. " I am not cabbage to be bargained for in market "... I spent the last week of my holiday with her,, Checking out of my hotel to stay with her in her cheaper hotel. I will never forget her, though I never saw her again

Now I am over 65 and live here full time.. Thai ladies are beautiful inside and out. I have a Thai wife now. she is a rice farmer and works very hard,as my pension is not enough to put her kids through college.

It's sad I know but lots of men, not all of us, go to Thailand purely for sex. It's cheap and the prostitutes are young and the men know that they will be treatd well. Some men will even go back to see the same girl each time they go back. They can buy one for their whole holiday if they wish. They know they are going to be clean as they are regularly checked.

They have no respect for human dignity and are aware that women in Southeast Asia are easy to exploit (due to their living conditions). Also for gay men, the men can be easily exploited, too. It's sad and disgusting that people have no problem taking advantage of the unfortunate conditions of other people (the unfortunate conditions being poverty and lack of opportunity to get a "real job" for inhabitants of Southeast Asia). It's all perversion and exploitation.

flyonezwall: It's great that you have a genuine relationship with a Thai woman, but that doesn't mean you should deny that sex trafficking is not a MAJOR problem in Southeast Asia. It's a known fact that a LOT of women from Southeast Asia are forced into prostitution, sexual slavery, and to be mail-order brides. This includes Thai women (and some men). The issue exists and it should not be ignored. We should not devalue human life and dignity by allowing this to happen through ignoring the issue and/or knowingly purchasing these slaves and their services.

budhah1: The old man who had the "time of his life" having sex with young women is looked down upon because he's exploiting them. He deserves to be scorned and scuffed. He needs to grow up and get a life. Life is not sex, and the enjoyment of one man should not come at the expense of a woman who has to become a sex slave in order to stay alive.

(There ARE of course men who go to Thailand to see all of the beautiful sights, but the men that you are referring to are NOT these men.)
