fed up with stupid questions
For Garh G, there has been no coup, you're thinking of a protest by a group of pissed off army officers last year which amounted to nothing, I had friends in the Oakwood at the time and the army guys were really polite, they just wanted to make their point, legally or not, that is not for me to judge.

For Nigthcrawler, you are more than useless since you cannot even spell the word NIGHT in your answers name!!

You are also mistaken re colonialism, you have all accepted the stupid american way of life here, the americans did nothing for this country except give you dreadful English and fast food.
If only the British had not sold the place for 1 usd you may have had more of a chance!

What I love about this country is the hospitality, beauty, lack of overbearing tourism, smiling faces, and the total inability to get fazed by anything, including, disasters, personal loss or poverty.

You must, however, start to read the international news to find out what is going on in the world, since it all affects you more than you think. americans in general know nothing about anything outside their borders, the only good americans for me are the expats who have lived and travelled around the world, as I have for 30 years.

This country will have to join the rest of the world one day, but it won't happen while everybody thinks the place is doing well. It's not doing well and nor is america.

Open your eyes and learn more, absorb knowledge from others and adapt to foreigners and outside influence and maybe this place will be where it was 50 years ago - the number one business and investment country in Asia!

I was born in California but grew up here. This place might not be as beautiful as California but this is home for me. The beauty of California is superficial, the Philippines is more beautiful because my family is here. There is no place like home.
Most of the Filipinos in the US had already changed. Some had become so materialistic that they had forgotten where they had once belonged. It is those who had started from nothing that are more boastful when they become rich. Though I had admired my cousin whose child was born and grew up there. She knows how to speak English and is proud to be one. I had met a 12 year old girl who is barely 1 year in San Diego who feels so boastful and even degraded me.
The Philippines is more beautiful. Though it is not a perfect country. Food here is more cheaper than food in California and Hongkong. Rental is lower! Education is at parr with the world. We have Filipino nurses all over the USA, in London, Singapore, Middle East , Ireland and other countries. Our pharmacists are now in Australia, USA and Canada. Pilot and teachers are already out of the county also.
It is just so sad that we cannot serve our own country. Though Filipinos love their country, progress is too slow! Politicians are so corrupt that nothing is left for development of our country.
College graduates cant even feed themselves! They are still dependent on their parents. Licensed nurses are still jobless and serves as volunteer in hospitals for a year or so!

THINKER
Philippines for me is just not my home.

It is the country that raised me.

Iniibig ko and Pilipinas.
Ito ang aking lupang sinilangan;
Ito ang tahanan ng aking lahi.
Ako'y kanyang kinukupkop at
tinutulungan upang maging
malakas, maligaya at kapakipakinabang.
Bilang ganti, diringgin ko ang payo
ng aking mga magulang;
Susundin ko and mga tuntunin ng aking paaralan;
Tutuparin ko ang mga tungkulin ng
isang mamamayang makabayan at
masunurin sa batas.
Paglilingkuran ko ang aking bayan ng
walang pag-iimbot at ng buong katapatan.
Sisikapin kong maging isang tunay
na Pilipino sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa.

I was born in the Philippines and I will die in the Philippines and as a FILIPINO....

Philippines is a beautiful country that is not defined solely by its external circumstances. One has to learn to see beyond in order to appreciate its real beauty

It is a country that is not hopeless as what others perceive to be.

Philippines is a country that I am believing one day will be a great nation...

A nation that will be the lender and not the borrower...

A nation that will be the head and not the tail...

And from this country will rise all the great leaders we will ever come to know.

It may not happen it this lifetime nor in this decade, but I am truly believing that with small steps, we will arrive and reach our destiny.

And lastly, it is my home wherever my feet will send me...

I am finding myself short of words to explain what is Philippines for me. I am not a filipino but may be I love Philippines more than many many filipinos. Philippines is a land of happiness and friendliness it may be poor but its not poor at heart. I been to the Phil 16 times and whenever I landed at Manila airport I just felt as if I had come home and Philippines always embraced me like a loving mother seeing her dear son after sometime. I can spend hours writing about this beautiful country but I don't mean to bore you so I would just say like every third world country Philippines also have many problems that we all know but good thing there is that despite all the problems people of Philippines know the art of living a happy life. And in the end I would just say Philippines is the country of Judith Castillio the woman I not only loved but adored. And my love for her is immortal so is my love for the Philippines. My salutes to Philippines.

The Philippines is one of the most beatiful places I've lived in - period. With all of the daily challenges. I'm originally from the USA, lived in W. Europe, E. Europe, Africa, and now since 2 years in Manila. I don't ever want to leave here, and certainly never want to live in the USA again.

R3EBOK, get on a plane ASAP and go to the Philippines! Don't be part of the USA propoganda and think that the USA is the best - it's not!

dWade03
The country with the best and the worse characteristics. Best place to live because of the friendliness and hospitality of the people. Has best places in the world like Boracay and Puerto Galera in Palawan. The worse because of the boastful politicians trying to gain wealth and crimes in some places.

The Philippines for me, means a place I have not never been but would love to go visit my relatives. I am only half-filipino but, i love telling people i am full filipino... lol. i just like the thought of having my relatives living in a different country other than the U.S. hopefully, i can finally see my grandmother (who i have never met) and my grandfather's grave (who i have met in the U.S. when he was alive)... and just meet all my family members that live in Mindanao. Hopefully, i will see them in February 2007.. right now, i am trying to study Filipino (Tagalog) so i can communicate..
