Bangkok is the name of the district across the river from the capitol of Thailand. The Capital is known as, bear with me I'm a bit rusty, āļāļĢāļļāļāđāļāļāļĄāļŦāļēāļāļāļĢ āļāļĄāļĢāļĢāļąāļāļāđāļāļŠāļīāļāļāļĢāđ āļĄāļŦāļīāļāļāļĢāļēāļāļĒāļļāļāļĒāļēāļĄāļŦāļēāļāļīāļĨāļ āļ āļāļāļāļĢāļąāļāļāđ āļĢāļēāļāļāļēāļāļĩāļāļļāļĢāļĩāļĢāļĄāļĒāđ āļāļļāļāļĄāļĢāļēāļāļāļīāđāļ§āļĻāļāđ āļĄāļŦāļēāļŠāļāļēāļ āļāļĄāļĢāļāļīāļĄāļēāļ āļāļ§āļāļēāļĢāļŠāļāļīāļ āļŠāļąāļāļāļ°āļāļąāļāļāļīāļĒāļ° āļ§āļīāļĐāļāļļāļāļĢāļĢāļĄāļāļĢāļ°āļŠāļīāļāļāļīāđ (I think thats close). You will see it as āļāļĢāļļāļāđāļāļāļĄāļŦāļēāļāļāļĢ on some signs and documents, transliterated as Krung Thep Mahanakhon, but it is most commonly referred to as āļāļĢāļļāļāđāļāļāļŊ or Krung Thep transliterated.
Also note that transliteration is tough. To pronounce the āļ in āļāļĢāļļāļāđāļāļ it isn't a hard K nor is it a G as I've seen some people write it, it is a very soft k but close to g as well, hmmm hard to explain. The āļĢ or r also isn't really an R, its a quick flick of your tongue on the roof of your mouth with a subtle r sound. While Thai is tonal like many other Asian languages, it is a very soft language and not harsh at all. I don't like the sound of most of the asian languages, but Thai is a beautiful language. Most of the pronunciations are done very soft, Such as āđāļāļ or Thep, it's not the english TH sound as in THe, it also isn't a had T like Toad. It's a wispy "T" with an audible exhale folllowed by something close to an "e" as in End, but also close to an "a" as in A apple then ending with a soft "p".
If you ever get a chance to listen to a thai, listen to them very close, it is such a great language. |

Bangkok it is. Used to be Thongburi correction from the person above. Then prior to Thongburi is Ayuthya, the Sukothai, the latter which was the first Thai capital dated back over 700 centuries ago.
About the bombs, please if you feel the need to bring one with you, try deposit it with the central police bombing squad call 191 once you get here. |
