Nursing. People earn their desired degree and then join the bandwagon to take a second degree (nursing) all for the hope of a good life abroad. |

Pol sci. Daming gusto mag-abogado. Philippines is a litigious society. We have more lawyers here than all of Asia combined. And yes, Nursing. When I was in high school, all the girls in my batch took up nursing, except me. |

Yes nursing is very popular here, but not everone cass pass the entrance exams or afford the tuition. Besides there is a limited number of schools here that are licenced for nursing. I think if you look overall, the biggest and most popular major is commerce. |

Today, nursing is very popular because of the promise of working abroad & earning lots of money. Call center has become a big business here that it rivals India. However, you don't need a skilled employee to work here. All you need is a good command of English & you're in. Caregiver is also popular because of high earnings abroad. The government's trying to stop nursing graduates from leaving the country but majority complain of low wages here vs. high salaries abroad. One month's pay there is equivalent to sevral months or years pay here. Money is the main reason why so many of our gifted workers are going away. It's called "Brain Drain". |
