...my (mum's side) grandpa is extremely strict man tat no one ever dare to irritate him coz he is a landlord....
...and he rear birds...
...one day..while he was cleaning the cages...while he went for a toilet break...i (was only 6 years old then) accidentally open the cage and the merbok flew away...i became scared..
...when he came back...i lied to him tat the bird got away...and he believed me...
...on his deathbed..i admitted tat i lied...and he said he knew...and he passed away smiling at me... |

None that I can recall. They passed on years ago. Never met my maternal grandpa in fact. When they were still around, they lived in Kampar, so I only got to see them briefly 2 - 3 times a year. |

I have never had bad relationships with my grand parents although my paternal grand parents were kind of distant.
I had a very very good relationship with my maternal grand parents though.
Well my grand father came from another country and was a farmer. He had lots of rabbits, chicken etc. He was a very very mild mind. The story goes that he only lost his temper really badly when he witnessed another farmer beating a horse.
That said. He had an unusual practice. When we had to have chicken for dinner, he would hang the chicken upside down, cut inside the throat until it bled to death. I remember all the flapping and blood thirsty other chicken gathering around.
according to him, the meat would taste better that way. Mind you he was a farmer but he was both rational and very very sensitive at the same time.
Maybe the "most brutal thing" but kind of sweet and sour...When my grand mother died, he took to bed and cried non stop. He summoned me to go and see him on my own and told me that my grand-mother would always be watching me ( she loved me very very much). He gave me a small box of photographs just for me ( about his history. childhood, letters etc) and told me to keep quiet about it. Lots of history..bitter and sweet, anecdotes, horrible things too..
It was heart wrenching. He always called me "tchieu" or stg like that which is a very endearing term in Flamish.
He could not cope without my grandmother. He died 3 months later. Totally of heartache. He did not want to live anymore. |

Does anyone of you remember the "penyapu lidi", try running away from an old lady that is chasing you. Then when you thought you've concealed yourself well, out of no where.....
WHACKK!.....right smack on your calves....and WHACKK! again and again. Then pulls your ear straight into the house and douse you with a pail of cold water.
Why? Because I ran away during 'mandi' time. |
