A very good question!
Well, my study for the past 35 years shows that Cryolophosaurus that lived on earth about 150 million years ago was the smartest animal ever.
But my recent research shows that Kunmingosaurus was also extremely smart. Gee, I can't tell you.

In the animal kingdom it would be the elephant. In some areas of rural India where elephants and farmers compete for the same land elephants have begun fighting back.

Elephants have been known to team up and stage organized raids during the night, not to steal food but drag sleeping people from their beds and stomp them to death. Wild elephants have also been known to raid villages so they can guzzle vats of home brewed beer.

Such behavior shows almost human levels of intelligence.

And since no giant squid has ever been found alive, they're really on the side lines, so it's impossible to say which animal is the smartest.
