It's really hard to pick a favorite, but these are some that stand out for me:

Kurashiki- pretty architecture, kind of a sleepy sort of feeling to the town

Kyoto-- so many temples and things to see, I love all of the back streets and little restaurants

Miyajima- It's gorgeous there and I felt jealous of the folks who lived on the island when I was there. However it is very crowded by tourists so I think that would detract from enjoying life there.

Nagasaki- fun city with friendly people, many beautiful temples and architecture, very clean and lots to see and do

But I think my very favorite has to be my current home of Yokohama- the people here are so cool about everything and very friendly and open. It's the only city I've been lost in in Japan where people actually stopped and offered to help me, lol. It's less crowded and stifling than Tokyo, and cleaner. There are clean-air policies in Yokohama which discourage smoking in restaurants, a breath of fresh air for those of us who don't like smoke with our food. Lots more green and parks and thought put into the city planning. Transportation system is great.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Chinatown is authentic, but it is kinda fun. So are all of the zoos, aquariums, and museums here. Landmark Tower is cool, Sankeien is gorgeous, and Kanazawa Bunko is great. Lots of shopping and food from all over the world. You can taste the feel of a big city and a small city all in one depending on where you go.

ALLLLLLL!!!!!

Hmm, asking my favorite is like asking how many brain cells adam has. Wait, that answer is too easy. it's 7.
ok, it is like asking how many stars in the sky.

So my favorite is probably......my home town of Gose.♡
it is perfect. from the quiet peacefull hillsides, to the beautiful rice fields. It is like going to the "real" Japan.

Hiroshima is a beautiful city, and I do love the atmosphere. Everyone there truly does have a positive outlook towards attaining world peace. It was very different and refreshing. Too bad more people in the world don't share their attitude.

I also love Tsuyama. It's small, and I wasn't there during the cherry blossom season (which Tsuyama is a very famous place to view them), but that's where I lived with my host family, so it will always be one of my favorite places.

Sendai-not too big, not too small, not too hot, not too cold-you get the picture.

For some reason I liked Osaka a lot! Tokyo was fun and interesting but there was something really down to earth about Osaka. I found it less mainstream/americanised than Tokyo (apart from Amerika-Mura!) ... there was just a really good vibe to it. And the food... yum!

Nonetheless it was really very interesting, and friendly... just a great city!

Tokyo - it's got everything I imagine a big city would have. It's futuristic yet traditional. It's large yet so easy to get around. Of five places in the world where I would want to own a home is Tokyo.

Kyoto!!!

It is still very well 'preserved' and has great deal of effort in promoting the traditional/ancient arts. More like a city that connects/unites tradition to the modern society.

Kyoto!
1. It has so many places to visit and there is always an exhibition somewhere.
2. I always discover something interesting, small temple, historical place, beautiful building, a museum.
3. People are very friendly. I feel that Kyoto people are the friendliest in whole Japan.
4. I know where to find cheap and good stuff. Last time I got white jeans with belt and cool embroidery for 1000yen
5. I don't know, but I always enjoy eating in Kyoto. The food is so delicious and light, even the cakes! And the atmosphere is more relaxing...
6. I have a lot of friends in Kyoto. I have more friends in Kyoto than in the place I live!
7. I like the local YH, I always have great time there!
And so on, and so on....I love Kyoto!

With out a doubt Kanazawa.

It is located on the West side of Japan is is a mixture of old and modern Japan.
If you go, you will see;

Houses that Samurai lived in, still preserved.
Narrow clean streets
On the ocean
Cheaper sushi
Cheaper hotels
A real affection for gaijin's
Mountains
Walking communities - leave the car at home.
Finally, Starbucks

Oh, did I mention clean!!!!
