The star, I guess, shows your appreciation for the question asked...one which you find really interesting and worth your time answering. It is also a sign of encouragement to those who ask to post more questions. Many stars do not make the questioner a superstar, only his/her question which majority finds intriguing or eye-catching.
Here's a star for your question which I find worth answering. |

The purpose of starring a question on Yahoo is :
a/ to indicate to those within your network that you feel that the question was either interesting or that it merits a look see by them,
b/ it also indicates, to the asker, that you appreciated his/her question,
c/ it can also serve as a bookmark of sorts for you to come back to it at a later date.
I doubt that many stars make the user a superstar but it does show some appreciation. |

For me,
1) It makes the question easier available to your contacts especially on fast moving boards where questions stay in the first page for less than two minutes.
2) It could also mean I found the question interesting and feel that my other contacts can give nice answers.
3) I could not resist giving stars to people who say that it's their birthday and they want stars. |

Just to attract others to answer and find out if it is really interesting. Your and your personal contacts will see it in your profile . |

It means people like the question.
If you YAP long enough, then we all know who is a real superstar. I believe the questioner is a true YAPPER and superstar. |

Honestly I don't know at first about the star.I don't even know that I need to give when I find the question interesting. But now I guess it shows that the question is interesting and needing attention for people who might can give a good answer.
So the impact is to the question and not to the answerer. |

Stars serve a lot of purpose but here in YAP, it's to make you a WEBSTAR!! And just maybe after a thousand stars, you can have a galaxy! =)) |

When you star a question it shows up in your contacts network so the question can get more answers. |

To give light, hope, warmth and life.
Yes, in a way, the Asker is made a superstar by garnering so many stars.
But when the "stars all burn out" we better have a Starship standing by, as well as our personal Helen of Troy (a figure of speech, not our very own real Helen in YAP), who would accompany us and keep us jolly warm at night, when we "simply fly away".*. |
