You mean what religion do most Filipinos practice? A vast majority are Catholics, but there are a good number of Buddhists. In Mindanao (the southern part of the Philippines), there are many Muslims. There are also a few people who practice the different branches of Protestantism. |

Until the end of the nineteenth century, the Philippines were a Spanish colony. Like in all other Spanish colonies (Latin-America!) the Catholic Church was the only one allowed to actively and forcefully convert the local people. For that reason today the Philippines are mostly Catholic (in a charismatic way), with a Muslim minority on the southernmost islands. Also, among some of the still existing original tribes of hunters and gatherers, animism is still present. |
