It's *supposed* to be used for answers that are either not informative (such as "idk" or "hahaha thanks for the points") or that are incorrect, but there are always some people out there who just thumbs down everyone for the sake of it.

Unfortunately people have used thumbs-down to disagree with an OPINION, not a FACT (for example, a question like 'what's your favorite fruit?'). And there's always those people who give every answer in a question a thumbs-down, no matter what the answers say. I'm not sure if these people think they are causing other users to lose points, or just being mean, or what.

Personally, I dont care what you like or dont like, but if I see an answer to a problem that is mistaken in its facts, I'd rate it a thumbs down...or if the answer did nothing at all to help the asker (example, saying "I dont know" or saying something derogatory.)
