singapore is not exactly cheap but go to malls which offer sales and go to Lucky Plaza for cheap things to bring home and give to friends, families
just enjoy the sites which is only found in Singapore like Sentosa, Night Safari, SIngapore Zoo, Esplanade, Boat Quay

I often ask myself that too. I guess the answer is not in the price but in the variety and quality. Sure you can buy things cheaper in less developed countries but the quality and choices are bad.
When you compare Singapore to more developed countries like US and Europe, you can buy the same things at a lower price though. Many things, food, transport, rental, property, clothes, medical expenses, electronics just to name a few. It's very difficult to say since we often put a price on quality as well.
