follow the traffic rules. pay your taxes.

first, stop making babies..! we are already 90 million, our country already has all the burden it can handle.

second, stop calling politicians 'kurakot', it would just make the corrupt ones numb and the honest ones disappointed and discouraged.

third, study and be a good citizen.

Educate the people to be a good nationalistic citizen of the Philippines! That's all. Everyone seems professional but still more of us are lacking of understanding how to be a good citizen of this nation.

We tend to say this or that to be good or bad but still where is the sense of nationality, unity and confidence with each other. Talangka mentality is still inhibited among us.

its nice to hear concerned citizen of the Philippines if what you can do to make our country a better place.. well, it must start with ourselves. we must be disciplined enough, as simple as throwing your trash in proper garbage areas, then motivating others to do the same thing. we can't really change our country that soon, but a try would be great.. and it shall start now..

Do your share, be a good citizen. You should know your responsibilities towards your country, your government and your fellow Filipinos.

Help me in trying to create a community of the poor people where I planned to provide them their own means of livelihood, education, health services, in a place full of fruit bearing trees and vegetables so they can live a better life and once molded into better Filipino citizens, that's the time they can go for greener pastures and help others, too.
GOD BLESS YOUR PEOPLE. GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES!!!!!

In your on little ways you can do such big difference. Like what the quote says that "Before being a leader, you must know how to be a follower"... :)

Spend more time doing good rather that looking good. Seriously i dont know how it seems almost impossible. The mind set of our Politicians are so selfish, i dont know how they could sleep knowing Pilipinos being victimized in Other countries trying to escape poverty in the Philippines while those few rich Politicians suck the money which are supposed to go to Projects to better roads, housing and infrastructure. Just seeing the conditions in the Philippines the difference between the have and have nots is a sight, really hard to bear. In our own it might be impossible. God help the Philippines peace to all.

Religion has to go, the Catholic Church is the no. 1 cause of poverty in the country. They are the reason for over population, government coruption, poor education, pollution and over crowded barangays.

The population is only going to increase because the church says "don't use birth control", making the country more and more poor in the years to come. 90 million now and increasing at 2 million per year, do the math. What will it be like in 10 more years. I know dirt poor families here that have 8 to 12 children that they can't feed or educate. What will these children become? Criminals, as if it's not bad enough now, where someone will kill you for a cheap cell phone. Just wait, at least I can leave this country, but most can't.

The church controls the government, because of it's wealth. That is the cause of the corruption.

The church wants people to be stupid, so they don't ask questions, thus the poor education system. Plus teaching RE to young children is just a waste of their little education time.

Pollution, the church has convinced people that god will clean up the pollution. That is why no one cares that the country is being poisoned and everyone throws garbage everywhere. Only 45% of the water is considered drinkable, and that will be cut in half within the next 10 years.

This country will never improve until it stops all the nonsense that the church does. The Catholic Church is the richest, largest land holder in the Philippines, and they continue to take take take from the poor without giving anything back.

I have been here for 3 years from Canada and what the church has done to this country makes me sick. I love the people, but the church has made them so stupid, that they have done it to themselves by putting up with this religion. If the philippines is an example of what happens when god blesses something, well then I would never want to be blessed by such a god.

Don't believe me, look it up. Read and learn about this horrible religion and it's history in the Philippines, what it has done to this country, don't just listen to what the liars from the church tell you. They only want money, power and to control you.

It depends of your status, age and capabilities.
There are many ways to make this country a better place to live in. First, if you are a politician, STOP CORRUPTING. If it is impossible to do, well at least, finish your projects and make sure that these benefit the majority. Also, costs for unnecessarry trips for government officials should be cut off. (Not to mention the current European trip of GMA and her allies costs USD3,000/head.day - now tell me how many houses can you build with this amount). I am sure the officials know what our country really needs, such as education, housing, employment and health services. For me, these are the most important things that a citizen should acquire in order to get a good life.
Changing the status of the Philippines may take time but this only happens with the cooperation fom each individual. Everything is a "link" to every man's success. If one gets to have a good education, he will get a decent job, proper pay and be able to live a good life. Yes, our country is a "diploma mill", there are a lot of graduates yet not all of these are employed. With the booming BPO's in our country, I guess this time wouldn't be hard enough. If only the government really sees to it that those unemployed are given aids in call center training programs, these people could make it. I don't look down call center agents, this is a decent job and the easiest that a Filipino could get.
If you have lots of money, venture into business, you do not only gain profit from it, you as well help generate income for our country and of course, you get to help other people by giving them employment. And still, if you have lots more, donate some to charity, your money will go a long way.
Cleaning your community would also make this country a better place. It does not only create a clean surrounding btu also you get to help eliminate dirt that could cause sickness to other people.
For the youth, they should excel in their field, avoid drugs and focus on education. Education is really the key for success. Wherever you go, as long as you have your diploma with you, you won't get "lost".
Rules, rules, rules. This is important. Most Filipinos do not follow rules even the simplest road signs. A progressive country composes of disciplined citizens.
There are still lots of little things that anyone can do. But those I mentioned above were just let's say very basic.
Of course we don't expect everyone to be rich BUT at least live a better life with good benefits from the government such as free hospitalization, "real" security and dedicated government employees who are really willing to serve the Filipino community. We cannot be America or Japan, but we can be a better Philippines - with lower crime rates, lower unemploymentability, high literacy and good-paying decent jobs.

HOW TO BE
A GOOD CITIZEN

Do your share to make your school, your community, and the world a better place. .

Take responsibility for what goes on around you.

Participate in community service.

Help take care of the environment.

Be a good neighbor.

Treat other people with respect and dignity.

Follow the rules of your family, your school, and your society.

That good citizens do their part to make their community a good place to live.

That they have the power to make a positive difference in the world.

For Parents:

• Ask your child to tell you about the video program and what he or she learned from it.
• Ask you child to show you the page entitled "How to be a Good Citizen." Discuss the guidelines for citizenship listed on this page. Perhaps post them in a place where your child will see them often.

• Have a family discussion about what things you can do together to take more responsibility for the environment (recycling, using less water and energy, buying non-polluting products, etc.). Make a plan and do it.

• Participate in a community service project with your children.

• Watch a television program together, and talk about ways in which the characters were either good citizens or bad citizens.

• When you do things that demonstrate good citizenship, be sure to point it out to your child. Your child will learn a lot from watching what you do.

The answer to the paradox that we heard from many observers was that weakness in governance and weakness of public institutions to work for the common good, rather than for special interests, was holding back more dynamic development. As this story goes, with weak governance, public decisions are distorted by special interests, thus government fails to collect taxes and fails to allocate resources equitably and efficiently, thus depriving the people public services and depriving the country of a reliable investment climate that would encourage rapid growth.
The challenge is how to escape from this inequality trap, so that social and economic policies that give better economic and social opportunities for the poor and less privileged lead to greater equality and social inclusion, which in turn reinforce better governance.

It is difficult to predict short-term events, but in the medium term, I am optimistic for the future of the country. The benefits of reform for economic stability, investment climate, social inclusion and overall better governance are compelling and will not go unnoticed. The Philippines is fully capable of moving forward rapidly on this agenda and achieving its potential and its aspirations.
