What the Philippines will be like in 50 years will take completely different paths if you consider certain factors.
Situation 1: Philippines 50 years from now if we consistently have corrupt political leaders.
The Philippines could be even poorer than we are right now. The economy would be obscenely bad, and of course, we would have higher crime rates. After all, it only took the Marcos dictatorship less than 20 years to completely sabotage our economy, Imagine how much devastation could occur if the bad trend in leaders continues.
Situation 2: Philippines 50 years from now if we have good political leaders.
Then, the Philippines may be much better off. The Ramos presidency started a path towards a better economy during his time, and we had begun to reach the "Tiger Cub" economic status in the 6 years of his reign.
Imagine what 50 years of good leadership could do to our economy! The Philippines had once been among the ranks of Japan and China in terms of economic status, and with real and just leadership, we may possibly reach that level again. After all, if we have sincere political heads, they would work hard towards making the Philippines a truly beautiful country, and will hopefully bring back the luster of the Pearl of the Orient. ^_^ |

Hard to tell. But, just like other countries, things can easily turn around for the Philippines any time. The Philippines has well-established institutions in place. It only takes a good and strong leader to turn things around. Who could have guess that India will emerge as an economic powerhouse today five years ago, and China fifteen years ago, and Korea 25 years ago? China changed when Deng Xiao Ping came to power. Singapore is lucky to have Lee Kwan Yew.
So to the pessimists out there, take heart. The Philippines could turn for the better easily in the future when the right leader will come along. Just as the United States turned for the worse when George Bush came to power. Suddenly, the United States dramatically declined in prestige before the world. See what one leader can easily do to his country - for better or for worse? |

Oh wow, nice to know a lot of people still have faith in the Philippines' economic and socio-political development, huh? These are surely some of the brightest shiniest happiest people I've (virtually) met. **sarcasm stops here**
Seriously people, is this how we are supposed to be feeling about our own country? Apathy, fatalism and abandonment? |

Sorry to say so...but if the global warming and denudation of forests, defiling of natural resources continues at the current pace, the Philippines might actually cease to exist since it might be submerged like the fabled Atlantis.
But speaking otherwise, I firmly believe that the Philippines will have graduated to a First World country within this timespan, provided certain steps are taken by its government and people. |

i think the philippines will no longer exist and be below the ocean. OH MY GOD, what a horrible thought. but... the ice caps are melting!
anyways, i think i will still love as much as i do now. even if it might end up more corrupt. it's still my homeland. i've got to defend it! i think it will be cleaner. =]
i went home 3 years ago, and it wasn't nearly as clean as it was this time i returned. especially in quezon city because of all those new fences by SM north edsa and the no dumping garbage signs. i think if they put those all over the country it would help out a lot. and in the 3 years i was gone, it really improved. think of what 50 years would do! |

Japans dumping ground. Economic pressure will force the philippines to let themselves be abused by the "fortunate few" wealthy families and the rest of the ordinary people will sit back and say "wallah mahimo" nothing I can do about it. It will be a toxic waste dump unsuitable for human habitation. The only thing I am happy about is I will be dead long before it happens. |

The Philippines will be the same in 50 years as it has not changed in the last 50. The population has grown and the traffic is heavier. The water has worsen and the smog is deeper. The building are taller and the jeepneys are still running. Trikes are a way of life and fishing is done the same now as 50 years ago. It is very hard to change a society where one or two in a family has to go abroad to send back money for those who cannot or will not work. Sorry but I know Philippines 50 years ago and I know it today..,. History does repeat itself and this will be no different. |

There will not be as many foreigners getting as many BJ's as there are now. That's just my guess. There won't be as many fat australians coming over here and marrying prostitutes either. That's another guess. I could be wrong though. |
