I find Indonesia to be very intriguing and quite appealing. I have never been to Indonesia, but the culture looks very interesting. The Hindu influences and Muslim influences make Indonesia unique, I think. Borobudur would be a great place to travel. Also, I am interested in the Indonesian language. I would like to learn it in the future. (Currently, I'm not able to study it)
I'd love to go to Indonesia someday. |

beautiful and rich islands invested with huge amount of hypocrite religious believers and corrupt government officials.
Indonesia should have been the number 1 country in the world if its not for those two kinds.
too bad there is no real recipe to combat those two, apparently very hard. |

islands........check. beaches.........check. sunshine...............check. great food..............check.nice and friendly people..........check.with more than 17.000 islands, one of the longest coast line in the world, you bet, it's a beautiful place. different island offer different cuisine, culture and even different language. that is indonesia. unity in diversity. i just hope that indonesian people realized what they have. |

Indonesia...
No matter how difficult this country is, I have to admit it: Indonesia is unforgettable.
And sometime I've got misty eyes when listening to "Bagimu Negeri". |

Intriguing country of cultural mystery, struggling to emerge from third world status. Communists were run out--and eventually killed off (many were sworn enemies of the USA) by an iron fist dictator: the kind of folks the CIA likes--and little wonder there why.
Touristy if you like the humid weather and spartan hospitality, albeit the people there are friendly---espicially if you're carrying $$$$. Otherwise, I doubt Inonesia is exactly your four-star tourist hot spot.
Indonesia indeed has many hidden treasures of epic nature---and they have NO moral objection to using extreme force to protect them.
To date, the USA has a comfortable "business arrangement" with Indonesia---one surely to last decades and decades on. |

depending on which part of Indonesia you are referring to. Each part of Indonesia has it's own diversity and culture. Bali is the most common part of Indonesia that tourist go to and being a western person that lives in Bali I can say that the people, culture and panorama are a delight. The sad thing is that most tourist just stay in the tourist area's and not venture further afield to really get the knowledge of the culture.
Cost of living in Indonesia is very cheap and there is such a array of foods for you to try.And yes there is a downside but then hasn't all counties got a downside??? Hope you have a wonderful time exploring Indonesia it is truly a delightful place |

While it is several years since I last visited I love the country and the people, I have travelled through Bali, sth & central Suluwesi, Java and Nth Sumatera all very different and all wonderful.
I am glad to see the country starting to fulfil it's potential and feel SBY is a very good man to have as president
I think it is unfortunate that a small group of people seem to be trying to stir up religious violence. |

There are many good things in Indonesia. Scenery, oceans and sea life, temples, food, loads of natural resources (which are being decimated). The problem is, corruption is rampant from the top on down and this affects the environment, children, the elderly, the poor and the rich. I see a lot of Indonesian people blaming corrupt government officials and religious leaders but they don't take a look at themselves and admit they they themselves are causing and promoting the corruption as well.
Indonesia is officially a 'democratic' country when in reality it is very far from democratic. Journalists still to not have protection, journalists also take corruption money from the police and government officials to not report what is actually going on, honest ones that report the facts on police and government corruption get prices put on their heads.
Human rights activists still get murdered. Google 'Munir poisoned Garuda'. They know who did it but still have done jack about it.
Women themselves promote the stupid 'anti pornography' law which has seen working women with families thrown in jail for doing nothing more than waiting for a bus to get home from their office - they don't even understand what it means to their everyday lives.
Groups of religious fanatics abound - especially the FPI terrorists - which ride around on motorcycles and terrorize the general population during the supposed 'holy month' (kill whitey!), wielding bamboo poles and smashing everything up, assaulting the locals who don't pay up while the police stand around and do nothing. The government won't put a ban on these dress-wearing losers, so they run amuck every year like a bunch of psychotic monkeys. It's an annual tradition.
Babies are still dying by the millions because of hospitals, doctors and a medical system that won't treat them because they are poor.
Children are beaten, tortured, maimed and disfigured by their own parents *and* teachers and nothing is done to help them. I've got photos of proof, thanks, for anybody who cares to dispute this.
Floods are everywhere due to the laziness of local people, throwing their rubbish in rivers, lakes and streams, as well as due to rampant deforestation. Landslides abound for the same reason.
Then we have companies like Lapindo who wiped out an entire area of Java and made thousands of already poor people more poor and then homeless. No penalty for them. Nice move, Bakrie. I'm sure that's your express ticket to heaven.
The government wants foreign investment yet goes out of their way to make it nearly impossible for the bulk of foreigners who want to invest in the country to do so unless they are an oil or mining company willing to pay millions of dollars for the privilege of further decimating the Indonesian environment.
Tourism is down yet they decided that cutting back on tourist visa length to 30 days was a stellar idea - oh,and then they started charging for it! Brilliant.......
I know I'm gonna get a lot of thumbs down for saying this. I don't care. The truth needs to be said. This country is in a lot of trouble. I wish Gus Dur was still in power. I'm quite sure Indonesia would have seen a lot more positive change by now. Unfortunately, the bulk of the population here is not ready for a politician like Gus Dur. They're still 50 years behind the times, while he's 50 years ahead of them all. |

big country with so many problems...but on top of that you have to pay attention to their culture, history, people, and food. You can hardly forget about it once you go there, you need to have at least a camera with 4 gb memory or maybe more to frame the gorgeousness. |

Indonesia is a wide country and full of hidden treasure. From Sabang to Merauke, we'll find many attractive places to explore. I like Toba like which small island Samosir in the middle, it's great to take a boat there. I like the scenery of mountain and beach, the great shooping city Bandung, full of cultural places such as Yogyakarta and Bali, Historical museum, Taman Nasional Bunaken, and unique ethinc in Papua. Although, I haven't explored all of them yet, I'm really sure that Indonesia is beautful is a fact. I hope we will find more treasure in Indonesia! |
