I remember the sermon of the priest with your question. The sermon says that the "end of the world" for you or us is when we leave this earth. In short the end of the world for us humans is our death.

But come to think of it. The question should be answerable by date or time but nobody can exactly say when would that be. But when you die definitely it is the END OF THE WORLD for you.

I can think of several ways how the world would end, but I'm an optimistic person:

1. Mankind (I hope!) will not destroy itself or the earth.
2. No unlucky calamity of cosmic proportions will occur, e.g. an asteroid or comet hitting the earth.
3. God will allow man to evolve as a civilization.

Thus, I can only think of two ways how the world would end:

1. Several billion years later, when our sun goes into its "red giant" phase.

After the sun exhausts its hydrogen fuel, it will enter its "main sequence" and transform into a "red giant", engulfing the inner planets including earth. But the earth will be long dead by that time, as it will be cooked like what Mercury is today.

2. Billions and billions of years later, when the universe has expanded so much that it has reached thermal equilibirum, resulting in "heat death".

By that time the earth will be so close to absolute zero that it will be devoid of any life.

But as I said, I'm very optimistic. By the time these things occur, I think man would have evolved into a galactic civilization and live among the stars.
