Marie Is Love

When someone asks about how you are...?

Do you always put on a brave face and say "I'm fine" even though you are having a personal meltdown?

An inspired q.

I tend to be honest about how I am when people ask. Lately, saying ā€œfineā€ has been the truthful answer, but people tend to want that answer even if you’re not. It’s because people ask ā€œhow are youā€ out of courtesy instead of a real concern for you. I’m not talking about family and friends .

Truly answering this question can be challenging when asked by someone with whom you don’t want to share everything. At those times when things are not so great ā€œI Just Keep On Keeping Onā€ is a great answer because it isn’t really specific, its not telling a mis-truth (why say fine when things are not fine), plus it serves as a self declaration to keep on, how else do you get out of a funk unless you keep on, right?

So how am I now? I’m fine! Honestly!

I always say "I'm good" to avoid longer conversations...

Of course...who doesn't say "I'm fine"......I don't think its how we honestly feel rather than it just being an automatic trigger. I mean you're not being rude but you're not being overly friendly.

I often do, because it's easier to say that than it is to tell them your heart is breaking and all you want to do is fall on the floor and cry, or to tell them that you're so stressed or angry that you want to smash something. Sometimes you just don't want to talk about your problems, and you also don't want to mention how lousy you're feeling because it might come across as if you're looking for attention or sympathy. At least, that's what I do.

Lee
Unless its a close acquaintance, I always say "I'm well".
I guess its not right at all to open up your personal life to someone you've just met.

best thing about Filipinos are whatever trials in life,we can still Smile and say "Im Fine" we were just born "brave"! and can survive!

For me, the occasion, location, conversational themes and particularly the person or people who asked indeed have something to do with my honesty on my emotions and sentiments. It depends on what the circumstance necessitates.

Not always, but usually. It depends on who's asking. If it's someone I feel close to and think should know what's going on, I'll let them know, but if it's just some random person then I don't need them to know what my personal feelings are. Sometimes it's not there business, or sometimes I just think they're only trying to be nice and don't honestly care what's on my mind.

Doctor J
No, I don't. I may not exactly tell the person details of my woes, but I would definitely not pretend to be fine when I am not. Most likely I will say "Could be better!".

Mark
no. thinks you are me are respicting me for you man people

caito kid
No. I cannot hide my emotions. My husband says I am very transpatent. That is why I cannot be an actress.

Yes, I do fake that all is well. Why go into the dirty details unless the person asking can actually help or is genuinely interested?

If someone asks how you are, a lot of times, they don't even really want an answer!

yeah actually i wud always say "im fine, and u?" haha..

so how are you ate marie?

kian
Why not?

Jraz
to me it depends who's asking me 'how are you'... if it's someone close then i'll let it out and show emotion.

Meot Tog
I'd say: not so good but i will survive or I'm still standing (lol)

Sometimes I do depending on the kind of personal problem I have. If it is something that will burst my ego or something that is too embarrassing for my own comfort, I put on a false smile and deny the fact that I am experiencing what you call a personal meltdown. Even beggars have pride so....
